REPUBLIC OF SINGAPORE, Sunday, 2 June 2024 – Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Retired) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II led a delegation from the Ministry of Defence of Brunei Darussalam to the 21st Shangri-La Dialogue held at the Republic of Singapore from 31 May 2024 to 02 June 2024.
The Shangri-La Dialogue is a high-level conference organised annually by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) to discuss pressing regional security issues and initiatives pertaining to geopolitical competition, new security domains, technological development and future regional cooperation. Over the years, it has grown in prestige and credibility that contributed significantly towards building confidence and provided crucial venue for leaders to foster practical cooperation. This year’s Dialogue was attended by international heads of government, defence ministers, military chiefs and leading members of national security establishments of over 50 Asia Pacific countries including Brunei Darussalam. The keynote address for the 21st IISS Shangri-La Dialogue was delivered by the President of the Republic of the Philippines His Excellency Ferdinand R Marcos Jr, while the plenary sessions featured renown figures including the President of the Democratic Republic of Timor Leste, President of Ukraine, Prime Minister of Lithuania President-Elect of the Republic of Indonesia, as well as Defence Ministers from host country and Asia Pacific region.
On 02 June 2024, Yang Berhormat Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II attended the informal Southeast Asia-United States Defence Ministers Meeting that was convened and chaired by The Honourable Lloyd J. Austin III, Secretary of Defense of the United States. The meeting generally touched and exchanged perspectives on the current state of defence cooperation between the United States and Southeast Asian nations particularly in facing the shared security challenges in the Indo-Pacific.
Yang Berhormat Minister at the Prime Minister‘s Office and Minister of Defence II also made short bilateral meetings with His Excellency Prabowo Subianto, President Elect of the Republic of Indonesia, His Excellency Dr. Maliki Osman, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister at Ministry of Education and Ministry of Foreign Affairs dan His Excellency Dr. Ng Eng Hen, Minister for Defence of the Republic of Singapore.

REPUBLIK SINGAPURA, Ahad, 2 Jun 2024 – Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Mejar Jeneral (Bersara) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Menteri di Jabatan Perdana Menteri dan Menteri Pertahanan II telah mengetuai delegasi Kementerian Pertahanan Negara Brunei Darussalam ke Dialog Shangri-La IISS ke-21 di Republik Singapura yang diadakan dari 31 Mei 2024 hingga 02 Jun 2024.
Dialog Shangri-La adalah persidangan peringkat tinggi yang diungkayahkan setiap tahun oleh
International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) bagi membincangkan isu-isu dan inisiatif keselamatan berkaitan dengan persaingan geopolitik, domain keselamatan baharu, perkembangan teknologi serta kerjasama serantau di masa hadapan. Setelah bertahun-tahun ianya diadakan, Dialog ini berkembang menjadi persidangan terkemuka dan berkredibel yang menyumbang dengan ketara kearah membina keyakinan dan menyediakan lapangan penting bagi pemimpin-pemimpin untuk memupuk kerjasama praktikal. Dialog tahun ini dihadiri oleh ketua-ketua kerajaan antarabangsa, menteri-menteri pertahanan, para pemimpin tentera dan tokoh-tokoh terkemuka pertubuhan keselamatan dari lebih 50 negara Asia Pasifik termasuk Brunei Darussalam. Ucaptama bagi Dialog Shangri-La IISS ke-21 telah disampaikan oleh Presiden Republik Filipina Tuan Yang Terutama Ferdinand R Marcos Jr, manakala sesi-sei plenari telah menampilkan pemimpin-pemimpin terkemuka termasuk Presiden Republik Demokratik Timor Leste, Presiden Ukraine, Perdana Menteri Lithuania, Presiden Republik Indonesia Terpilih, serta Menteri-Menteri Pertahanan dari negara-negara tuan rumah dan rantau Asia Pasifik.
Pada 02 Jun 2024, Yang Berhormat Menteri di Jabatan Perdana Menteri dan Menteri Pertahanan II juga menghadiri pertemuan tidak rasmi Mesyuarat Menteri-Menteri Pertahanan Asia Tenggara-Amerika Syarikat yang bersidang dan dipengerusikan oleh Yang Berhormat Lloyd J. Austin III, Setiausaha Pertahanan Amerika Syarikat. Mesyuarat secara umumnya telah menyentuh dan bertukar-tukar pandangan mengenai keadaan semasa kerjasama pertahanan di antara Amerika Syarikat dan negara-negara Asia Tenggara khususnya dalam menghadapi cabaran keselamatan bersama di rantau Indo-Pasifik.
Di hari yang sama, Yang Berhormat Menteri di Jabatan Perdana Menteri dan Menteri Pertahanan II juga berkesempatan mengadakan perjumpaan singkat secara berasingan dengan Tuan Yang Terutama Prabowo Subianto, Presiden Terpilih Republik Indonesia, Tuan Yang Terutama Dr. Maliki Osman, Menteri di Pejabat Perdana Menteri, Menteri Kedua Pendidikan dan Menteri Kedua Hal Ehwal Luar Negeri dan Tuan Yang Terutama Dr. Ng Eng Hen, Menteri Pertahanan Republik Singapura.
