ROYAL BRUNEI NAVY PARTICIPATES IN INDO PACIFIC 2022 IN SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA


INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION CENTRE, Darling Harbour, Sydney, 10-12 May 2022 – The Royal Brunei Navy (RBN), along with 80 other navies from the Indo-Pacific region, gathered in Sydney, Australia for the Indo Pacific 2022 previously known as the PACIFIC International Maritime Exposition. 

This year, a total of 10 events were held under the Indo Pacific 2022, amongst which the RBN attended the Sea Power Conference 2022, King-Hall History Conference 2022, The Sailors’ Forum 2022, the International Maritime Exposition and the commemorative event for the 80th Anniversary of the Battle of the Coral Sea. 

Representing the RBN were First Admiral Dato Seri Pahlawan Spry bin Haji Serudi @ Haji Seruji, Commander RBN, Commander Haji Edy Jofren bin PDP DP Hj Abdul Jalil and Warrant Officer 1 Anizanazree bin Haji Omar.

This year’s Sea Power Conference, carrying the theme “The Indo Pacific in the 21st Century: A Commonality of Purpose”, was initiated by Vice Admiral Michael Noonan, Chief of the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) and was followed with keynote addresses by General Angus Campbell, Chief of the Australian Defence Force, Lieutenant General Rick Burr, Chief of the Australian Army, and Air Vice-Marshal Darren Goldie, Air Commander Australia, where they collectively highlighted the importance of cooperative and collaborative regional partnerships in the Indo-Pacific to maintain mutual security, peace and prosperity. The Sea Power Conference was then followed by a regional naval overview, deliberation of the strategic outlook, technology and maritime operations, maritime grey zone activities, cooperation, and maritime security.

RBN was also given the opportunity to speak on their experience in Exercise KAKADU in the King-Hall History Conference 2022, themed “Exercise KAKADU: then and now”. Speaking on behalf of the RBN was Commander Haji Edy Jofren where he highlighted the values of Exercise KAKADU to the RBN and its contribution to the RBN’s mission through the three key aspects of Operational Capacity, Training Value and Naval Diplomacy. The Sailors’ Forum themed “Friendship, Leadership, Partnership” hosted by Warrant Officer Deb Butterworth, Warrant Officer of the Navy, RAN, was attended by Warrant Officer 1 Anizanazree as a represent of RBN’s Senior Enlisted Leader. The Senior Enlisted Leaders from navies in the Indo-Pacific region discussed ways of making leadership more of a partnership in the navy of the future. 

On the fringes of Indo Pacific 2022, RBN had the opportunity to conduct a series of bilateral meetings to further entrench naval ties. Bilateral meetings were conducted with Vice Admiral Michael Noonan, Chief of RAN, Admiral Yudho Margono, Chief of Naval Staff, Indonesian Navy, Rear Admiral Aaron Beng, Chief of Republic Singapore Navy, Admiral Tan Sri Mohammad Reza Mohd Sany, Chief of Royal Malaysian Navy, Admiral Somprasong Nilsamai, Chief of Royal Thai Navy, and Vice Admiral Michael F. McAllister, Commander of the Coast Guard Pacific Area and Defence Force West.

RBN remains committed to pursuing opportunities to utilise platforms such as the Indo Pacific 2022 to enhance RBN’s understanding of the strategic environment whilst enriching naval ties with her partner navies towards a peaceful and stable region.

TENTERA LAUT DIRAJA BRUNEI MENYERTAI INDO PACIFIC 2022 DI SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA

INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION CENTRE, Darling Harbour, Sydney, 10-12 Mei 2022 – Tentera Laut Diraja Brunei (TLDB) bersama dengan tentera laut dari rantau Indo Pacific telah berkumpul di Sydney, Australia untuk menghadiri Indo Pacific 2022 yang sebelum ini dikenali sebagai PACIFIC International Maritime Exposition.

Pada tahun ini, sebanyak 10 acara dijalankan serentak di mana TLDB telah menghadiri Sea Power Conference 2022, King-Hall History Conference 2022, The Sailors’ Forum 2022, International Maritime Exposition dan acara bagi memperingati hari ulang tahun Battle of the Coral Sea yang ke-80. 

Mewakili TLDB adalah Laksamana Pertama Dato Seri Pahlawan Spry bin Haji Serudi @ Haji Seruji, Pemerintah TLDB, Komander Haji Edy Jofren bin PDP DP Hj Abdul Jalil dan Pegawai Waran 1 Anizanazree bin Haji Omar. 

Persidangan Sea Power tahun ini bertemakan  “The Indo Pacific in the 21st Century: A Commonality of Purpose” dirasmikan oleh Vice Admiral Michael Noonan, Chief of the Royal Australian Navy dan diteruskan dengan ucaptama yang disampaikan oleh General Angus Campbell, Chief of the Australian Defence Force, Lieutenant General Rick Burr, Chief of the Australian Army, and Air Vice-Marshal Darren Goldie, Air Commander Australia, di mana mereka secara kolektif menekankan kepentingan kerjasama serantau di Indo-Pacific bagi mengekalkan keselamatan serantau untuk mengekalkan keselamatan, keamanan dan kemakmuran bersama. Persidangan diteruskan dengan gambaran keseluruhan tentera laut serantau, perbincangan pandangan strategik, teknologi dan operasi maritim, kegiatan grey zone maritim, kerjasama dan sekuriti maritim. 

TLDB juga diberikan peluang untuk membentangkan pengalaman TLDB dalam Exercise KAKADU di bawah King-Hall History Conference 2022 yang bertemakan “Exercise KAKADU: then and now” yang disampaikan oleh Komander Haji Edy Jofren, selaku wakil TLDB. Beliau mengongsikan nilai Exercise KAKADU kepada TLDB dan sumbangan latihan tersebut kepada misi TLDB melalui tiga aspek utama iaitu kapasiti operasi, latihan, dan juga diplomasi tentera laut (Naval Diplomacy). Manakala Sailors’ Forum yang bertemakan “Friendship, Leadership, Partnership” yang dihoskan oleh Warrant Officer Deb Butterworth, Warrant Officer of the Navy, TLDA, telah dihadiri oleh Pegawai Waran 1 Anizanazree, bagi mewakili lapisan kepimpinan lain-lain peringkat TLDB. Wakil lapisan kepimpinan lain-lain peringkat tentera laut serantau membincangkan cara untuk menjadikan kepimpinan sebagai perkongsian di tentera laut masa depan.

Di samping itu, TLDB turut berpeluang mengadakan beberapa siri mesyuarat dua hala untuk mengeratkan lagi hubungan tentera laut. Perjumpaan dua hala dijalankan dengan Vice Admiral Michael Noonan, Pemerintah TLDA, Kepala Staf Angkatan Laut Laksamana Yudo Margono, Rear Admiral Aaron Beng, Pemerintah Tentera Laut Republik Singapura dan Laksamana Tan Sri Mohammad Reza Mohammad Sany, Panglima Tentera Laut Diraja Malaysia, Admiral Somprasong Nilsamai, Pemerintah Royal Thai Navy, dan Vice Admiral Michael F. McAllister, Commander of the Coast Guard Pacific Area and Defence Force West.

TLDB kekal komited untuk menggunakan peluang seperti Indo Pacific 2022 bagi meningkatkan lagi kefahaman TLDB dalam hal ehwal persekitaran strategik sambil mengeratkan perhubungan di antara tentera laut sahabat untuk mencapai matlamat rantau yang aman dan stabil.
