MANILA, REPUBLIC OF PHILIPPINES, Wednesday, 28 August 2019 – The Honourable Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Retired) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, the Second Minister of Defence of Brunei Darussalam is in the Republic of Philippines for an official visit, at the invitation of the Secretary of National Defense of the Philippines, The Honourable Delfin N. Lorenzana, from 27 to 30 August 2019.
The official visit began with a courtesy call on the Secretary of National Defense of the Philippines that took place at the Camp General Emilio Aguinaldo, Quezon City. The Honourable Pehin was accorded with the arrival honours mounted by the Armed Forces of the Philippines prior to the courtesy call. During the call, both sides mutually reaffirmed the excellent bilateral defence ties between Brunei Darussalam and the Philippines, as well as underscored their cooperation through multilateral engagement such as, the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) and ADMM-Plus. Both Ministers also exchanged views on a range of current security issues, highlighting the growing importance of working closely together to address these challenges.
The Honourable Pehin then met the Philippines’ Deputy National Security Advisor, Rufino S. Lopez Jr, during which the two informed each other on domestic, regional and international developments, and exchanged mementoes between them.
The Honourable Pehin will also be travelling to Mindanao, and will spend time visiting the Grand Mosque and the Brunei Darussalam’s International Monitoring Team (IMT) Site 1 Headquarters in Cotabato City. During this opportunity, The Honourable Pehin will receive briefings from Brunei Darussalam’s IMT and the Independent Decommissioning Board (IDB).
The Honourable Pehin is expected to end his official visit to the Philippines on 30 August 2019.

MENTERI PERTAHANAN KEDUA MEMBUAT LAWATAN RASMI KE REPUBLIK FILIPINA
MANILA, REPUBLIK FILIPINA, Rabu, 28 Ogos 2019 – Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Mejar Jeneral (Bersara) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Menteri Pertahanan Kedua Brunei Darussalam sedang berada di Republik Filipina untuk lawatan rasmi, atas undangan Setiausaha Pertahanan Nasional Republik Filipina, Yang Berhormat Delfin N. Lorenzana, dari 27 hingga 30 Ogos 2019.
Lawatan rasmi bermula dengan kunjungan hormat kepada Setiausaha Pertahanan Nasional Republik Filipina, yang berlangsung di Kem Emilio Aguinaldo, Quezon City. Yang Berhormat Pehin telah diberi kawalan kehormatan oleh Angkatan Tentera Republik Filipina sebelum kunjungan hormat. Semasa kunjungan tersebut, kedua-dua pihak saling mengesahkan hubungan pertahanan dua hala di antara Brunei Darussalam dan Filipina, serta menggariskan kerjasama mereka melalui penglibatan pelbagai hala seperti Mesyuarat Menteri Pertahanan ASEAN (ADMM) dan ADMM-Plus. Kedua-dua Menteri juga bertukar pandangan tentang pelbagai isu keselamatan semasa, yang menekankan pentingnya bekerjasama rapat untuk menangani cabaran-cabaran berkenaan.
Yang Berhormat Pehin kemudian membuat perjumpaan kepada Penasihat Keselamatan Negara Filipina, Rufino S. Lopez Jr, di mana kedua-dua pihak memaklumkan perkembangan-perkembangan domestik, serantau dan antarabangsa, dan diakhiri dengan bertukar cenderahati.
Yang Berhormat Pehin juga akan melakukan perjalanan ke Mindanao dan meluangkan masa untuk mengunjungi Grand Mosque dan Ibu Pejabat Pasukan Pemantau Antarabangsa Team Site 1 Negara Brunei Darussalam di Cotabato City. Dalam kesempatan tersebut, Yang Berhormat Pehin akan mendengara taklimat daripada Pasukan Pemantau Antarabangsa Negara Brunei Darussalam dan Independent Decommissioning Board (IDB).
Yang Berhormat Pehin dijangka menamatkan lawatan rasminya ke Filipina pada 30 Ogos 2019.
