His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, today received in audience The Honourable Gilberto C. Teodoro, Jr., Secretary of National Defense of the Republic of the Philippines. The Audience Ceremony took place at Istana Nurul Iman.
Accompanying The Honourable were Major General Angelito M. De Leon (Retired), AFP, Undersecretary for Defense Affairs, Her Excellency Marian Jocelyn R. Tirol-Ignacio, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of the Philippines to Brunei Darussalam, and senior officials from the Department of National Defense, Republic of the Philippines.
Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of the Philippines have enjoyed close and longstanding defence relations, which has been further strengthened through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on Defence Cooperation on 22 August 2001, as well as the active participation of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) in the Independent Decommissioning Body –
Verification, Monitoring and Assistance Team (IDB-VMAT) mission in Mindanao, the Republic of the Philippines, alongside the continued cooperation through various multilateral defence platforms.
