BOLKIAH GARRISON, Monday 15 June 2015 – In support of Directorate of Development and Work Services (DDWS) vision of “Quality, Sustainable and Green Infrastructure”, one of the initiatives was to conduct tree planting at RBAF Camps and Garrisons.
Therefore, a tree planting ceremony was organised at the open area within the Ministry of Defence compound and the surrounding areas of the Performance Optimisation Centre (POC) building in Bolkiah Garrison.
Also, it is aligned with Brunei Darussalam’s continuous efforts to promote and preserve its rich tropical environment, Ministry of Defence and with a major contribution from Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation, Ministry of Development (JASTRE), held this ceremony to further beautify and add more trees to Ministry of Defence and Bolkiah Garrison areas.
The ceremony was officiated by the Guest of Honour, Dato Paduka Haji Mustappa bin Haji Sirat ,Deputy Minister of Defence. Also in attendance were Datin Paduka Hajah Suriyah binti Haji Umar, Permanent Secretary and First Admiral Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohd Tamit, Acting Commander Royal Brunei Armed Forces, members of the Defence Executive Committee, Military and Civilian Directors, officers and staff of Ministry of Defence and Bolkiah Garrison.
The ceremony began with the recital of Surah Al-Fatihah and a “ Doa Selamat” was read to bless the tree planting. The Guest of Honour was later invited to plant the first tree and followed by other guests. A total of 4 types of trees and 2 types of plants were planted in both areas. Within the Mindef compound, the tree planted was Tabebuia. While in POC area, the trees were Eugenia, Fiqus, Tanjung and plants were Boungainvillea and Jasmin. Total of 60 trees and plants were planted during the ceremony.
The tree planting at POC area was led by the Bolkiah Garrison Commandant, Major Fadly bin Mohd Yacob and the staff of Bolkiah Garison Headquarters assisted by staff from Directorate of Administration and Manpower and DDWS.
This activity is a continuous effort by DDWS and more tree planting ceremonies are planned for the near future in all RBAF Camps and Garrisons.
