BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA, 23 June 2022 – The 14th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus Experts’ Working Group on Military Medicine Meeting (ADMM-Plus 14th EWG on MM), was co-chaired from Brisbane, Australia virtually by Brigadier Isaac Seidl, Australian Co-Chair and Colonel Dr Haji Awang Mohd Hafizul bin Haji Awang Mohd Hassan, Brunei Darussalam Co-Chair of the EWG on MM.
The 14th ADMM-Plus EWG on MM, participated by ADMM-Plus members virtually, centered its discussion on exploring the interface of military health and public health systems in tackling the threats of emerging infectious disease, zoonotic diseases and vector borne disease in the ASEAN region. It builds on outcomes from the 12th and 13th ADMM-Plus EWG on MM meetings respectively which considered contemporary military contributions to health security during the COVID-19 pandemic and mechanisms as significant to enable best practice in regional health security into the future. During the meeting, renowned medical speakers from different backgrounds were invited to share their experiences and insights virtually.
Australia also arranged a number of programmes at the sideline of the meeting including a short session with Mr. David Lewis, Assistant Secretary Southeast Asia at Australia’s Department of Defence, a briefing by the Joint Health Command on the administrative and operative medical services systems as well as on the ADF Health Strategy. Brunei Darussalam’s delegation was also given the opportunity to visit the Australian Defence Force Malaria and Infectious Disease Institute (ADFMIDI), the Enoggera Health Centre, the Monash Centre and the Australian War Memorial.
Both sides also took the opportunity to discuss the facilitation of the Brunei Darussalam-Australia ADMM-Plus EWG on MM’s work plan for the period of 2022-2024. At the end of the meeting, Brunei Darussalam’s Co-Chair briefed on the preparations for the 15th ADMM-Plus EWG on MM which is hoped to be hosted physically in Brunei Darussalam, tentatively in the final quarter of 2022.
Brunei Darussalam and Australia are currently the fourth Co-Chairs of the ADMM-Plus EWG on MM (2021-2024). Since its establishment in 2010, the EWG on MM has been able to strengthen cooperation, interoperability and coordination among the military medical services of the 18 ADMM-Plus countries as envisaged by the ADMM-Plus leaders.
MESYUARAT KUMPULAN KERJA PAKAR PERUBATAN TENTERA ADMM-PLUS KE-14 BERLANGSUNG SECARA ATAS TALIAN
BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA, 23 Jun 2022 – Mesyuarat Kumpulan Kerja Pakar Perubatan Tentera ADMM-Plus Ke-14, yang diadakan secara atas talian, telah dipengerusikan bersama dari Brisbane, Australia oleh Brigadier Isaac Seidl, Pengerusi Bersama Australia dan Kolonel Dr Haji Awang Mohd Hafizul bin Haji Awang Mohd Hassan, Pengerusi Bersama Negara Brunei Darussalam.
Mesyuarat Kumpulan Kerja Pakar Perubatan Tentera ADMM-Plus Ke-14, yang disertai oleh ahli-ahli ADMM-Plus secara atas talian, telah menumpukan perbincangan dalam meneroka kesalingbergantungan sistem kesihatan tentera dan awam dalam menangani ancaman penyakit-penyakit berjangkit termasuk penyakit
zoonotic dan bawaan vektor di rantau ASEAN. Perbincangan ini adalah berdasarkan dari hasil mesyuarat Kumpulan Kerja Pakar Perubatan Tentera ADMM-Plus ke-12 dan ke-13 dalam melihat sumbangan pihak tentera dalam keselamatan kesihatan rantau semasa pandemik COVID-19 dan mekanisme mempertingkatkan amalan terbaik untuk menangani keselamatan kesihatan serantau. Beberapa orang penceramah pakar kesihatan turut diundang secara atas talian bagi mengongsikan pengalaman dan pandangan mereka semasa mesyuarat tersebut.
Pihak Australia juga telah menyusun beberapa program lawatan termasuk sesi bersama Tuan David Lewis,
Assistant Secretary Southeast Asia at Australia’s Department of Defence; taklimat daripada
Joint Health Command, Australia mengenai pengenalan tatacara pentadbiran dan operasi Khidmat Perubatan Tentera Australia; pengenalan pelan strategi kesihatan serta mengadakan perbincangan hala tuju kertas kerja dan penyelarasannya. Delegasi Negara Brunei Darussalam juga dibawa mengunjungi
Australian Defence Force Malaria and Infectious Disease Institute (ADFMIDI), the Enoggera Health Centre, the Monash Centre dan Australia War Memorial.
Kedua-dua Pengerusi Bersama turut mengambil kesempatan ini untuk membincangkan kertas kerja bagi Kumpulan Kerja Pakar Perubatan Tentera ADMM-Plus bagi tahun 2022-2024. Selain itu, Pengerusi Bersama Kumpulan Kerja Pakar Perubatan Tentera ADMM-Plus bagi Negara Brunei Darussalam juga mengongsikan persediaan bagi mesyuarat Kumpulan Kerja Pakar Perubatan Tentera ADMM-Plus kali ke-15 yang diharap akan dapat diadakan secara fisikal di Negara Brunei Darussalam pada bulan suku terakhir tahun 2022.
Negara Brunei Darussalam dan Australia adalah Pengerusi Bersama ke empat bagi Kumpulan Kerja Pakar Perubatan Tentera ADMM-Plus (2021-2024). Sejak penubuhannya pada tahun 2010, Kumpulan Kerja Pakar Perubatan Tentera ADMM-Plus ini telah memperkukuhkan lagi hubungan kerjasama, interoperabiliti dan penyelarasan antara perkhidmatan perubatan tentera bagi 18 buah negara-negara ADMM-Plus sepertimana yang dihasratkan oleh Ketua-Ketua Pertahanan ADMM-Plus.
