MUARA NAVAL BASE, Friday 13 March 2015 – With the consent of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Negara Brunei Darussalam, First Admiral Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohd Tamit who is the Acting Deputy Commander of Royal Brunei Armed Forces since 1st December 2014, is now the Deputy Commander of Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) whilst Colonel (L) Pg Norazmi bin Pg Haji Muhammad, Former Deputy Commander of Royal Brunei Navy is now appointed as the New Commander of Royal Brunei Navy.
In an atmosphere of great nostalgia and recollection, naval officers with their spouses and personnel of the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN), Defence Attaches and spouses, together with civilian personnel from both the Technical Equipment and Maintenance Department and other supporting departments of RBN gathered this morning at the Muara Naval Base Parade Square to witness another significant moment in RBN history, which is the Handover and Takeover Ceremony of the Commander of RBN.
The ceremony took place between the outgoing Commander of RBN, First Admiral Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohd Tamit who is effectively the Deputy Commander of RBAF while Colonel (L) Pg Norazmi bin Pg Haji Muhammad assumed command of Royal Brunei Navy with effect from today.
On arrival at the parade square, the Commander of RBN, First Admiral Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohd Tamit received the Honourary Salute and later inspected the Guard of Honour, which comprised of 180 personnel from various RBN sub units and personnel that includes the Fleet, the Base, RBN Senior Ranks and Women Naval Personnel. The parade was commanded by Major (L) Shahairil bin Haji Mohd Shahlan.
Following the inspection, the event proceeded with the slow and fast march past before returning to position. After the march past, the Commander RBN, First Admiral Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz conveyed his final speech as the Commander of RBN.
In his speech, First Admiral Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz express his utmost gratitude and appreciation to all personnel of RBN that have contributed their undivided support, commitments, dedications and effort in carrying out their responsibilities throughout his tenure as the Commander of RBN and urged them to extend such similar if not improve support to the new leadership. At the same time the Admiral also encourage all the men and women of the RBN to enhance their leadership in order to be adaptive, flexible and agile to better face the complex environment as well as enhancing the credibility of the RBN. He also emphasised to all personnel to inculcate the core values of the RBAF which are Piety, Courage, Loyalty and Professional. Insya Allah by embracing the core values, navy officer, men and women will be able to carry out their responsibilities effectively and efficiently in safe guarding and maintaining the maritime security of Negara Brunei Darussalam.
After the speech, the day’s event proceeded with the Signing of the Handing Over Certificate, marking the official handing over of the Commander of RBN duty. A doa selamat was then read to bless the ceremony by Lt Mohd Ayza Azrine bin Ayahani, Religious Officer from the RBAF Religious Department.
Upon assuming command of the RBN, Colonel (L) Pg Norazmi bin Pg Haji Muhammad received the Honourary Salute and later proceeded to inspect the Guard of Honour. This was then followed by the inaugural speech of the new Commander.
Colonel (L) Pg Norazmi bin Pg Haji Muhammad started with expressing his congratulatory message to First Admiral Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz on being appointed as the Deputy Commander of RBAF. The new Commander also expressed his utmost gratitude to First Admiral Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz, for his excellent leadership and dedication throughout his command of RBN.
In light of this, he calls on the officers, men and women of the RBN as well as the TEMD and civilian workforce of the RBN to be positive, proactive, innovative, visionary and forward looking in line with this year’s national day theme, “Generasi Berwawasan”. Colonel (L) Pg Norazmi also urged all naval personnel to maintain their high level of discipline and fitness in order to bring the RBN to a higher level.
The new commander amongst others also emphasised on the requirement to improve human resources management to be more comprehensive in order to take care of welfare and career of every individual in the RBN. The courses run by the Naval Training School are to be more systematic, in line with the RBAF Career Development Structure. He also calls on to improve the logistic system to ensure the naval assets are fully supported for optimum readiness.
The ceremony was concluded with a reception at the Royal Brunei Navy Officers Mess.
