DSC 4363SERASA MUARA, Thursday, 26 February 2015 – This year’s orienteering competition for the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) was held at the RBAF Watermanship Centre in Serasa, Muara.


The annual orienteering competition is aimed to test RBAF personnel in finding Check points within an allocated time using their map reading skills. It also aims to test the physical and mental stamina of RBAF personnel.


Present to witness the competition was Guest of Honour, the Commander of Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah. Also in attendance were Service Commanders, Commandant of the RBAF Training Institute, senior RBAF officers and other RBAF personnel. 


The participating teams consisted of Royal Brunei Land Force (RBLF), Royal Brunei Navy (RBN), Royal Brunei Air Force (RBAirF), Ministry of Defence (MINDEF), RBAF Training Institute and Special Forces Regiment (SFR). The orienteering competition was divided into seven categories, namely a team category and six other open categories. The open categories were: Officers’ age 40 above, Officers’ age 30 to 39, and Officers’ age 29 below. As for the enlisted personnel, Senior Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) for ages 40 above and 39 below and for lower ranks NCO for ages 29 below. A total no of 217 RBAF personnel participated in the event.


The Royal Brunei Land Force (RBLF) team was the winner for this year’s orienteering champion. Coming in second was the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) while, the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) finished third in the event.


The total scores were RBLF achieved 2,900 points, MINDEF 2,735 points, RBN 2,660 points, RBAF Training Institute 2,460 points and RBAirF 2,070 points. The prizes were presented by the guest of honour.
