NEPAL, Saturday 9 May 2015 – After eight days of daily operations the Medical Field Clinic at Gokarna was closed with a simple ceremony on Friday, 8 May.
The Clinic operated by medical professionals from the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF), Gurkha Reserve Unit (GRU) and MoH Singapore provided valuable assistance to the people of Gokarna and the outlying villages.
Lt Col (Dr) Adrian Tan (SAF) the Medical Commander thanked the Gokarna civic authorities for welcoming the medical team to their village and allowing to site the medical clinic on the grounds of such an important and historical temple. He also thanked the Nepal Police for providing the security.
The many local volunteers who supported the medical team with interpretation and translation were also thanked. He stated that the Medical Team would donate all the remaining medicine to the Gokarna Health Clinic to be used for the local population.
On behalf of the Medical Team Colonel KT Lim Commander of the SAF Contingent presented a laptop computer, sports equipment and school books each to Mr Nirman Neupane Headmaster of Sahayogi Higher Secondary School and Mr Ram Das Shrestha Chairman of the Managing Committee of the Gokarna Secondary School.
The Gokarna civic body represented by Dr Hari Prasad Upadhyaya the Public Health Officer thanked the visitors for the gifts and thanked the visitors and all volunteers for their invaluable medical help. He said that the people of Gokarna were very grateful for the medical aid rendered and would always remember the assistance given by the Medical teams from Singapore and Brunei.
He then presented framed Letters of Appreciation to the SAF, RBAF and MoH Singapore. In true Nepali custom each member of thej visiting teams was offered a ‘khada’, (a white or red cotton or silk scarf offered to honour and respect a person). The function was concluded with group photographs.
