SYDNEY, Wednesday, 27 July 2022 – Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Muhammad Haszaimi bin Bol Hassan, Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) attended the 24th Annual Indo-Pacific Chiefs of Defense (CHOD) Conference 2022 in Sydney, Australia from 25 to 27 July 2022.
This year’s conference was co-hosted by the Australian Defence Force and the United States Indo-Pacific Command at the Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney which gathered twenty-eight (28) Chiefs of Defence and representatives from the Indo-Pacific region.
With the theme, “Promoting the Rules Based Order in the Indo-Pacific”, military leaders discussed on the security implications of climate change for the Indo-Pacific, the impact of advanced technologies on individual and state security in the Indo-Pacific, and implications of the conflict in Ukraine for the Indo-Pacific. All 28 chiefs also had the opportunity to discuss further on enhancing information sharing and interoperability to address common security challenges while ensuring the best talents were recruited, groomed and retained.
Guest speakers, experts on the respective topics related to the conference theme, were also invited to present and share their perspectives. This was followed by plenary sessions where CHODs engaged in open discussion related to the mutual security challenges faced by the region. At the same time, all participating CHODs and representatives were also invited to an official dinner co-hosted by the Chief of Defence of the Australian Defence Force and the Commander of the United States Indo-Pacific Command.
The Commander of the RBAF also held courtesy calls with his CHOD counterparts that reflected close bilateral defence ties between Brunei Darussalam and the respective countries. They also discussed on future initiatives to further strengthen professional cooperation and enhance opportunities of interactions, bilaterally and multilaterally, in the Indo-Pacific region.
The Indo-Pacific CHOD conference is an annual conference for CHODs in the Indo-Pacific region to gather and discuss on issues of shared importance, while strengthening friendships and enhancing cooperation and interoperability for the peace and stability of the region.
PEMERINTAH ANGKATAN BERSENJATA DIRAJA BRUNEI TELAH MENGHADIRI PERSIDANGAN INDO-PASIFIK CHIEFS OF DEFENSE (CHOD) KE-24 DI AUSTRALIA
SYDNEY, Rabu, 27 Julai 2022 – Mejar Jeneral Dato Paduka Seri Haji Muhammad Haszaimi bin Bol Hassan, Pemerintah Angkatan Bersenjata Diraja Brunei (ABDB) telah menghadiri Persidangan Indo-Pasifik Chiefs of Defense (CHOD) ke-24 bertempat di Sydney, Australia dari 25 hingga 27 Julai 2022.
Persidangan tahun ini telah dianjurkan bersama oleh Australian Defence Force dan United States Indo-Pacific Command di Hotel Shangri-La, Sydney yang mengumpulkan seramai dua-puluh lapan (28) orang Ketua Turus Pertahanan dan wakil dari rantau Indo-Pasifik.
Dengan tema “Promoting the Rules Based Order in the Indo-Pacific”, Ketua-Ketua Turus Pertahanan membincangkan implikasi keselamatan perubahan iklim di rantau Indo-Pasifik, kesan teknologi canggih terhadap keselamatan individu dan negeri di Indo-Pasifik, dan implikasi konflik di Ukraine kepada rantau Indo-Pasifik. Kesemua 28 ketua juga berpeluang membincangkan kepentingan untuk meningkatkan perkongsian maklumat dan interoperability bagi menangani cabaran-cabaran keselamatan bersama sambil memastikan bakat terbaik diambil, dilatih dan dikekalkan.
Penceramah jemputan yang merupakan pakar dalam topik-topik yang berkaitan dengan tema persidangan tersebut turut dijemput untuk membentangkan dan mengongsikan perspektif mereka. Ini diikuti dengan sesi plenari di mana Ketua-Ketua Turus Pertahanan berbincang secara terbuka mengenai cabaran sekuriti bersama yang dihadapi di rantau ini. Pada masa yang sama, Ketua-Ketua Turus Pertahanan dan wakil-wakil yang hadir turut dijemput bagi majlis makan malam yang dihoskan bersama oleh Ketua Turus Pertahanan, Australian Defence Force dan Pemerintah United States Indo-Pacific Command.
Pemerintah ABDB juga telah mengadakan kunjungan muhibah bersama rakan-rakan Ketua Turus Pertahanan yang mencerminkan hubungan pertahanan dua hala yang erat di antara Negara Brunei Darussalam dan negara masing-masing. Mereka turut membincangkan inisiatif-inisiatif masa depan untuk memperkukuhkan lagi kerjasama profesional dan meningkatkan peluang berinteraksi dua hala dan pelbagai hala di rantau Indo-Pasifik.
Persidangan Indo-Pasifik CHOD merupakan persidangan tahunan di mana Ketua-Ketua Turus Pertahanan di rantau Indo-Pasifik berkumpul dan membincangkan mengenai isu-isu kepentingan bersama, sambil mengeratkan persahabatan dan meningkatkan kerjasama dan interoperability bagi keamanan dan kestabilan rantau ini.
