BOLKIAH GARRISON, Wednesday, 12 August 2026– Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Retired) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Coordinating Minister for National Security, Minister at Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II, today received a farewell call from Senior Colonel Nguyen Ngoc Huan, the outgoing Defence Attachè of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam to Brunei Darussalam, and an introductory call from Colonel Trinh Ke Van, the new Defence Attachè of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam to Brunei Darussalam.
During the calls, both parties exchanged views on matters of mutual interest, including the intention to convene the inaugural Joint Defence Working Group (JDWG) Meeting. Both sides also discussed efforts to further expand cooperation among the three Services of their respective armed forces through courses, training programs, military activities, and joint exercises.
Yang Berhormat Pehin also expressed his appreciation for the active exchange of visits between both sides, including several goodwill visits by the Viet Nam People’s Navy (VPN) ships to Brunei Darussalam. These exchanges are hoped to further strengthen the bilateral defence relations, in line with the aspirations outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Several Defence Fields signed between both countries on 16 November 2005, as well as the Memorandum of Understanding between the Royal Brunei Navy and the Viet Nam People’s Navy on Bilateral Cooperation signed between both navies on 5 December 2015.
BOLKIAH GARISON, Rabu, 12 Ogos 2026 – Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Mejar Jeneral (Bersara) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Menteri Penyelaras Keselamatan Negara, Menteri di Jabatan Perdana Menteri dan Menteri Pertahanan II, hari ini menerima kunjungan hormat perpisahan daripada Kolonel Kanan Nguyen Ngoc Huan, Atase Pertahanan Republik Sosialis Viet Nam ke Negara Brunei Darussalam yang akan menamatkan perkhidmatan dan kunjungan hormat pengenalan daripada Kolonel Trinh Ke Van, Atase Pertahanan Republik Sosialis Viet Nam ke Negara Brunei Darussalam yang baharu.
Semasa kunjungan hormat tersebut, kedua-dua pihak telah bertukar pandangan mengenai perkara-perkara yang menjadi kepentingan bersama, termasuk hasrat untuk mengadakan Mesyuarat Kumpulan Kerja Pertahanan Bersama (JOINT DEFENCE WORKING GROUP – JDWG) yang pertama. Kedua-dua pihak turut membincangkan usaha untuk memperluaskan lagi kerjasama antara ketiga-tiga perkhidmatan dalam angkatan tentera masing-masing menerusi kursus, program latihan, aktiviti ketenteraan dan latihan bersama.
Yang Berhormat Pehin turut merakamkan penghargaan atas pertukaran lawatan yang aktif antara kedua-dua pihak, termasuk beberapa lawatan muhibah oleh kapal Tentera Laut Rakyat Viet Nam (VPN) ke Negara Brunei Darussalam. Pertukaran lawatan tersebut diharap akan terus menyumbang kepada pengukuhan hubungan pertahanan dua hala selaras dengan aspirasi yang digariskan dalam Memorandum Persefahaman mengenai Kerjasama dalam Beberapa Bidang Pertahanan yang ditandatangani pada 16 November 2005 antara kedua-dua negara, serta Memorandum Persefahaman antara Tentera Laut Diraja Brunei dan Tentera Laut Rakyat Viet Nam mengenai Kerjasama Dua Hala yang ditandatangani pada 5 Disember 2015.
