SUNGAI AKAR CAMP, Monday 17 January 2013 – The Commander Royal Brunei Armed Forces officiated the opening of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Command and Staff Course 3 (RBAF CSC 3) on 17 Jan 2013.

The course comprises 29 officers, from Brunei as well as from Australia, Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Oman, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and the United Kingdom. The Royal Brunei Police Force and the Internal Security Department are also represented in the course.

The Royal Brunei Armed Forces Command and Staff College was officially opened by His Majesty the Sultan and Yang DiPertuan of Negara Brunei Darussalam in Nov 2010. The college conducts the Command and Staff Course (CSC) which offers a Masters in International Security, in partnership with Massey University of New Zealand.

This is a key career course of 39 weeks, which is attended by military officers holding the rank of Major and Lieutenant Colonel. Since inception, the college has successfully conducted 2 courses.

In opening the RBAF CSC 3, the Commander RBAF highlighted the challenges contemporary military commanders face today. Increasingly the operational role of the armed forces is moving away from traditional ones to ones they are less familiar with and not adequately equipped to handle. Therefore it is essential for the armed forces to re-orient themselves to remain ready and relevant to meet the new challenges. He said that commanders play an important role in this new operating environment characterized by ambiguity and uncertainty. He urged the Command and Staff Course students to take this opportunity offered by the college to prepare themselves to lead their respective armed forces into the future.
