BOLKIAH GARRISON, Thursday 19 January 2017 – The Directorate of Defence Policy, Ministry of Defence today received a delegation from Japan’s Bureau of Defense Policy led by Mr. Yasuyuki Kimura, Deputy Director of the Ministry’s International Policy Division who is in the country for a three-day working visit.
A bilateral meeting was conducted to review existing defence cooperation between both countries as well as in discussing the potentials of cooperation within the multilateral domain. The meeting was chaired by Mr Haji Adi Ihram bin Dato Paduka Haji Mahmud, Acting Director of Defence Policy.
After the meeting, the Japanese defence officials paid a courtesy call to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Captain (Rtd) Abd Rahman bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar.
During the courtesy call, the Permanent Secretary underlined the importance of enhancing defence ties with Japan, which has continued to grow on a steady trajectory over the years. This has been evident through the exchanges of visits, courses, as well as regular interactions between officers from both sides in various regional and international settings. The Permanent Secretary also expressed appreciation for Japan’s active role in promoting regional peace and security under the ambit of the ADMM-Plus. Japan, together with Lao PDR, were the co-chairs of the ADMM-Plus Expert Working Group on Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) for the 2014-2017 cycle.
Brunei Darussalam is currently the country coordinator for ASEAN-Japan dialogue relations (2015-2018).
DELEGASI DARI BIRO DASAR PERTAHANAN JEPUN MENGADAKAN LAWATAN KERJA KE KEMENTERIAN PERTAHANAN
BOLKIAH GARISON, Khamis 19 Januari 2017 - – Jabatanarah Dasar Pertahanan hari ini menerima lawatan dari delegasi Biro Dasar Pertahanan Jepun yang diketuai oleh Tuan Yasuyuki Kimura, Timbalan Pengarah, Divisyen Dasar Antarabangsa, Kementerian Pertahanan, Jepun.
Lawatan berkenaan meliputi mesyuarat dua hala antara pegawai-pegawai polisi untuk membincangkan kerjasama pertahanan dari segi dua hala dan pelbagai hala. Mesyuarat tersebut dipengerusikan oleh Tuan Haji Adi Ihram bin Dato Paduka Haji Mahmud, Pemangku Pengarah Dasar Pertahanan.
Selepas mesyuarat selesai diadakan, delegasi berkenaan telah berpeluang untuk mengadakan kunjungan hormat kepada Setiausaha Tetap Kementerian Pertahanan Kepten (B) Abd Rahman bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar.
Semasa kunjungan hormat tersebut, Setiausaha Tetap Kementerian Pertahanan menekankan kepentingan untuk terus mempertingkatkan hubungan pertahanan dengan Jepun yang mana ianya telah dipupuk melalui pertukaran lawatan, kursus, serta interaksi di antara pegawai-pegawai dari kedua belah pihak pada peringkat serantau dan antarabangsa. Beliau turut menghargai peranan aktif Jepun dalam mempromosikan keselamatan serantau di bawah rangka kerjasama ADMM-Plus. Jepun dan Republik Demokratik Rakyat Lao merupakan pengerusi bersama ADMM-Plus Expert Working Group on Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) bagi sesi 2014-2017.
Brunei Darussalam kini memainkan peranan sebagai penyelaras hubungan dialog ASEAN-Jepun (2015-2018).
