JERUDONG, Wednesday 4 Dec 2013 – During the Brunei Darussalam International Defence Exhibition (BRIDEX) and Conference 2013, the Deputy Minister of Defence, Dato Paduka Haji Mustappa bin Haji Sirat had the opportunity to meet with a few high ranking defence officials who were in the country for the BRIDEX 2013.
Yesterday Mr. Robert Kupiecki, the Under-Secretary of State for Defence Policy in the Ministry of National Defence of the Republic of Poland and the Polish delegation paid a courtesy call to Dato Mustappa bin Haji Sirat and the Defence Executive Committee members.
They were in the country to sign the Memorandum of Understanding concerning the development of mutual defence relations between The Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam as represented by the Ministry of Defence of Brunei Darussalam and the Minister of National Defence of the Republic of Poland.
Meanwhile during the BRIDEX 2013 Conference day on 2nd December, Dato Paduka Haji Mustappa received courtesy calls from Singapore’s Minister for Social and Family Development and Second Minister for Defence, Mr Chan Chun Sing and the Undersecretary of State For Security Policy, Poland, Mr Boguslaw Winid. Both were also invited as guest speakers at the BRIDEX 2013 Conference on 2nd December.
On the same day Dato Paduka Haji Mustappa also met with Mr Richard Paniguaian, Head of UKTI Defence and Security Organisation and Mr Sjafrie Samsoeddin, Vice Minister of Defence, Republic of Indonesia.
The following day, 3rd December, Dato Paduka Haji Mustappa received more courtesy calls from various defence officials including His Excellency Kemal Yardimci, Turkey Deputy Minister of National Defence; Major General McGillicuddy, Chief of Staff, Headquarters Pacific Air Forces, Joint Base Pearl Harbor, Hawaii USA; Chief of Malaysian Army YB General Datuk Raja Mohammad Affandi; and Deputy Secretary General (Policy) Ministry of Defence Malaysia Tuan Zulkafli Bin Abdul Karim.
The Commander of Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) also recieved courtesy calls from high profile personnel to name a few such as Chief of Defence Force, Malaysian Armed Forces His Excellency General Dato Paduka Seri Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Zulkefli bin Mohd Sin and Chief of Defence Force, Maldives Major General Ahmed Shiyam.
Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary (Defence Policy and Development), Pg Dato Paduka Haji Azmansham bin Pg Haji Mohamed and Permanent Secretary (Administration and Finance), Datin Paduka Hajah Suriyah binti Haji Umar also received several courtesy calls from their counterparts among them Deputy Defence Minister Myanmar, Commodore Aung Thaw; Singapore’s Permanent Secretary for Defence, Mr Chan Yeng Kit; Sweden’s Defence Attache to Singapore, Brunei Darussalam and Thailand, Captain (N) Lennart Bengtsson; Major General Ranieri, Director of the 3rd Department – Industrial Policy and International Relations at the General Secretariat of Defense, Italy, as a representative from Italy Chief of Defence Force; Head of French Delegation, Rear Admiral Pascal Ausser; Deputy Principal Director and Chief of Staff, Security Cooperation Operations and Directorate, Defense Security Cooperation Agency, Mr Don I. Olds Jr.
During these calls, the discussion focused on the defence cooperation and future direction, as well as means towards increasing opportunities for exploring and enhancing further the scope and areas of defence cooperation that is mutually beneficial for Brunei Darussalam and these respective countries. They also congratulated the Ministry of Defence for co-organising the 4th BRIDEX 2013.
