MUARA, Tuesday 3 November 2015 – Military Law Operations Symposium (MILOPS) 2015 was held at the Multi National Coordination Centre (MNCC) at Muara Naval Base as part of CARAT Exercise symposium
and was commenced with an opening speech
by Captain Nida’Ul Aqilah binti Haji Mayassin as the Coordinating Officer of the symposium.
CARAT is a series of bilateral naval exercise held annually in Southeast Asia to strengthen relationships and enhance force readiness, and as part of CARAT, Military Legal Unit coordinates MILOPS Symposium which sees the attendance of representatives from units in the RBAF and other government agencies.
MILOPS Symposium, a one-day event focuses on operational law, ethics and rules of engagement as well as issues relating to maritime security presented by speakers from the RBAF and the US Navy.
The symposium started with a presentation entitled, “Royal Brunei Navy Maritime Operation Challenges” which was delivered by Lt Malik Fadillah from the RBN. The presentation focused on challenges evolving over the year due to the dynamic nature of maritime security.
Other topics covered in the afternoon session included “Littoral Combat Ship Operation” which was presented by the representative from U.S. Navy and “Challenges in HADR Operations” which was delivered by Major Erawan bin Haji Abu Bakar from the Joint Force Headquarters (JFHQ) RBAF.
Apart from sharing information and discussions on current issues, the symposium is a platform for officers from RBAF and US Navy as well as those from government agencies such as the Royal Brunei Police Force, National Maritime Coordination Centre, Attorney General’s Chamber, Fisheries Department to exchange information, ideas, enhance relationships and strengthen ties in a conducive learning environment.
