MUARA, MONDAY 2 May 2016 – Participants of the the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus Maritime Security and Counter-Terrorism Exercise (ADMM Plus MS & CT Ex) nations kicked off the Force Integration Training (FIT) program today at the Muara Naval Base. Through the FIT program, participants were able to familiarise with each others’ common procedures, share knowledge and experience in maritime security and counter-terrorism as well as forge friendships that will increase regional cooperation. This FIT program also reaffirms the ADMM – Plus Maritime Security communications and Command and Control (C2) architecture.
Meanwhile, the steering committee discussion was held at the Multinational Coordination Centre (MNCC) this afternoon by both Co-Exercise Directors, ADMM-Plus Expert Working Groups (EWG) Co-Chairs of Maritime Security which are Brunei Darussalam and New Zealand.
Present at the meeting were the Co-Exercise Directors, Brigadier General (U) Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sahat, Joint Force Commander, Royal Brunei Armed Forces and Brigadier General Tan Kok Ming Desmond, Director Joint Operations, Singapore Armed Forces as well as the Co-Chairs of EWG on Maritime Security, Captain Haji Othman bin Haji Suhaili @ Suhaily, RBN, the Deputy Commander of Royal Brunei Navy and Mr. Mike Thompson, Director Asia Ministry of Defence New Zealand.
The briefing updated the status of the conduct of the Exercise which is planned to set sail on the 5th of May proceeding to the Republic of Singapore.
The ADMM-Plus MS & CT Exercise will be officially launch tomorrow, 3 May 2016. The aim of the Exercise is to promote practical Maritime cooperation in information sharing among ADMM-Plus countries and build a common understanding to establish and practice baseline interoperability procedures in Maritime Security matters, including baseline reporting and boarding procedures in multi-lateral maritime operations.
