SUNGAI AKAR CAMP, Thursday 4 July 2013 – In conjunction with the Passing Out Parade of Officer Cadets of Intake 9, a Khatam Al-Quran was held at Officer Cadet School (OCS) Surau in Sungai Akar Camp for the 26 graduating Officer Cadets.
This was the 10th and final Khatam Al-Quran reading by Intake 9, and a celebration of the end of training at OCS. The highlight of the ceremony was a mass reading of the Al-Quran, Dikir Marhaban, Tahtim, Doa Selamat and prayers.
Present as the guest of honour at the ceremony was Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ehsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, the Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces. The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Service Commanders, Director Personnel, Senior Officers, and the Officers and Staff of the Defence Academy RBAF.
The event started with the recital of Al-Fatihah and was followed by a mass recitation of Surah-surah from the Al-Quran by the Officer Cadets. To bless the ceremony, Doa Selamat was recited followed by Surah Yaasin and Tahlil with the ceremony ending after Isya’ prayers.
The ceremony was held to seek blessing in marking the successful completion of the recitation of thirty juzuk of the Al-Quran. Central to the training the Officer Cadets receive at OCS is religious education; Takwa is at the heart of the OCS motto “Setia, Takwa, Berani”.
The RBAF Commander’s speech highlighted the importance of reading and understanding The Al-Quran as a guide for Officer Cadets, which allows them to lead their men in the right direction. The Commander RBAF highlighted the importance of making Al-Quran reading a habit, not just for the time the Officer Cadets’ are in training, but more importantly after they leave the school. It will be a constant reminder of the duties and responsibilities entrusted upon them.
The mission of the Officer Cadet School is to develop the qualities of leadership, character and intellect in the Officer Cadets, the future leaders of the RBAF. Fundamental to developing these qualities is the firm moral base that our Islamic beliefs give us.
