SUNGAI AKAR, Friday 14 December 2012 – A total of 20 officers military officers including an officer from the Royal Brunei Police Force and 4 military officers from the Republic of Indonesia, Malaysia, Republic of the Philippines and the Republic of Singapore have completed the Junior Staff Course (JSC) 2012 today.

The Closing Ceremony of the Junior Staff Course (JSC) 2012 was held at the Command and Staff College Building, Sungai Akar Camp.

Present as the Guest of Honour was Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, the Commander of Royal Brunei Armed Forces.

In his speech, the Guest of Honour urged all JSC participants to take part to drive changes within and beyond the organisation. He also emphasized on the importance of the students to be dynamic, innovative and creative in the implementation of changes.

The JSC participants were also encouraged to continually examine and analyse new approaches and best practices to face future challenges. Apart from presenting certificates, the Guest of Honour also presented awards to those who have excelled in the course. Captain Arvin A Costa from the Armed Forces of the Philippines was awarded the Best Research Essay, the Best Service Paper went to 769 Captain Ernie Ermawati binti Mohd Erman from the training Institute Royal Brunei Armed Forces and the Overall Best Student was awarded to Captain Tan Yan Cheng from the Singapore Armed Forces.

The 14 weeks course began on 10 September 2012. It is an essential course for mid grade officers is to improve their overall military knowledge through outlined course programmes with focus on professional knowledge, leadership and management, communication skills and operational planning. Also present at the Closing Ceremony were the Services Commanders, Directors, Senior Royal Brunei Armed Forces Officers, Defence Advisers and Staffs of the Defence Academy.
