BOLKIAH GARRISON, Thursday 17 March 2016 – First Admiral (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohd. Tamit, Deputy Minister of Defence, received an introductory call from His Excellency Dato Paduka Serbini bin Haji Ali, the Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to the United States, this morning.
During the call, the Deputy Minister of Defence took the opportunity to congratulate His Excellency Dato Paduka Serbini on the appointment as the 7th Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to the United States.
The call focused on Brunei Darussalam’s bilateral relations with the United States, notably the existing bilateral defence and military engagements with the United States. The Deputy Minister of Defence and the Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to the United States also exchanged views on regional security and the Asia Pacific-region, emphasising the importance of ASEAN and the regional security architecture in ensuring stability in the region. The call also discussed prospects of strengthening bilateral relations between Brunei Darussalam and the United States, including defence cooperation.
His Excellency Dato Paduka Serbini received his Letter of Credence from His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam on 24 January 2016. He then presented his credentials to the Honorable President Barack Obama on 28 January 2016. Apart from an extensive time in the foreign service, His Excellency Dato Paduka Serbini previously held appointments in the civil service as Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health, and at Ministry of Home Affairs.
