– The Pre-Brunei Darussalam International Defence Exhibition (BRIDEX)2013 Walk and Cycle Event saw the participation of some 800 people looking to come out and show their support for Southeast Asia’s premier defence exhibition scheduled for the first week of December.
The event was organised by Royal Brunei Technical Services (RBTS), the official exhibition organiser for the Ministry of Defence’s (MinDef) 4th BRIDEX 2013.
Gracing the event was Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Commander of Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF). Also present was Datin Paduka Hjh Suriyah bte Haji Umar, Permanent Secretary (Administration and Finance) at MinDef, Col (Rtd) Pg Dato Paduka Haji Azmansham bin Pg Haji Mohamad, Permanent Secretary (Defence Policy and Development) at MinDef, and other RBTS Board of Directors members.
Residents of Kg Jerudong, personnel from various RBAF branches, as well as other security agencies such as the Prisons Department, and Fire and Rescue Department also participated.
After a group warm-up, participants competed in three categories: 5.5-km male walk, 3.5-km female walk and 10-km cycling.
The first 200 finishers in both walk categories were given a free admission ticket for the upcoming BRIDEX 2013 Exhibition Public Days, as well as each of the first 50 cyclists to reach the finish line.
Hjh Rosmawati bte Haji Manaf, CEO of RBTS cum BRIDEX Exhibition Director, said, “The Pre-BRIDEX walk and cycle event is also aimed at preparing its involved stakeholders, organisers and volunteers to be physically and mentally fit, and ready to accept the challenges laid ahead of organising BRIDEX 2013. We are expecting a representation of more than 35 countries from both the invited defence delegates and participating exhibitors.”
BRIDEX is open to the public on December 5 from 9am to 5pm, and on December 6 from 8am to 11.30am.
Exciting morning air demonstrations and static displays await.
Tickets are available from the RBTS Headquarters in Kiulap, the BRIDEX Office in Jerudong, the RBTS Paintball Arena in Jerudong and at selected Baiduri Bank branches.
