PENANJONG GARRISON, Saturday 31 January 2015 – His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Minister of Defence and Supreme Commander of Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) consented to close the 11th Brunei International Shooting Skill at Arms Meet (11th BISAM) at the Binturan Shooting Range in Penanjong Garrison in Tutong today.
Accompanying His Majesty was His Royal Highness Prince General Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, The Crown Prince, Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, General of Royal Brunei Armed Forces.
On arrival at the Binturan Shooting Range of the Garrison, His Majesty and His Royal Highness were greeted by the Deputy Minister of Defence, Dato Paduka Haji Mustappa bin Haji Sirat and the Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF), Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah.
His Majesty and His Royal Highness then consented for a group photo session and were introduced to Chiefs of Defence Forces, Chiefs of Defence Staffs, Ambassadors and High Commissioner and Representatives of participating countries as well as members of the 11TH BISAM 2015 Executive Committee.
Four hundred and seventy-eighty personnel of Military and Defence Forces from Australia, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, New Zealand, Oman, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, the United Kingdom, the United States of America and China took part in the competition. Brunei Darussalam was represented by three contingents, namely RBAF Contingents A and B and the Royal Brunei Police Force’s Contingent C.
His Majesty and His Royal Highness then proceeded to the Briefing Room for welcoming remarks by the Commander of RBAF and then a briefing by the Chairman of the 11th BISAM, Lieutenant Colonel Hasmee bin Haji Abdul Wahab.
His Majesty and His Royal Highness then consented to visit the Chief Executive Officer’s Office, Medical Centre and the Statistic Centre. Boarding a special vehicle, His Majesty and His Royal Highness then proceeded to the 350 metre Point Gallery Range 1 to witness the Final of the Rifle Falling Plate Competition.
His Majesty and His Royal Highness then consented to hear a briefing on the VVIP Novelty Shooting Competition delivered by Major Rudie Asmawi bin Abidin. Both His Majesty and His Royal consented to take part in the category for VVIP Novelty Shooting at the 350 metre range of a special event.
After the VVIP Novelty Shooting Competition, His Majesty and His Royal Highness consented to have a closer look at an array of state-of-the-art weaponries in display featured by the Omani, Malaysian, Indonesian and Chinese military personnel as well as the Royal Brunei Police Force. Oman featured their Pistol Sig Sauer P226S; Malaysia featured a Pistol TANGFOLIO Limited Custom 2010, Indonesia with the Rifle Pindad SS2 V4 while China featured a Rifle QBZ 95-1, Pistol QSZ-92 and a GPMG PLA67-2. Whereas, the RBPF featured the Pistol Sphinx 3000.
From the shooting range, His Majesty and His Royal Highness later proceeded to the Royal Stand for Royal Salute and the presentation of prizes for matches and the 11th BISAM overall champion.
His Majesty consented to present prizes to the winners of the special competition in the VVIP Novelty Shooting Competition at the 350 metre line category. The VVIP Novelty Shooting Competition was won by Team H comprising of Brigadier General (U) Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Wardi bin Haji Abd Latip, Commander of Royal Brunei Air Force; His Excellency Amphay Kindavong, Ambassador of Laos to Brunei Darussalam; His Excellency Chiay Sokkhan, Ambassador of Cambodia to Brunei Darussalam and Brigadier General Chia Choon Hoong, Chief of Staff-J5, Singapore Armed Forces.
Second place in the VVIP Novelty Shooting Competition went to Team A comprising His Majesty Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam; General Wang Jianping, Deputy Chief of General of Chinese People’s Liberation Army; General Sommai, Chief of Joint Staff of Royal Thai Armed Forces and Lieutenant Colonel Saiful bin Abdul Latif, Commanding Officer Special Regiment of RBAF.
Third place in the VVIP Novelty Shooting Competition went to Team B comprising His Royal Highness The Crown Prince; General TNI Gatot Nurmantyo, Chief of Army TNI; Lieutenant General John S. Bonafos, Chief of Staff of Armed Forces of Republic of Philippines and Lieutenant Colonel Joshe Raetz, Commander 1st Special Forces Group, United States of America.
The fourth place in the VVIP Novelty Shooting Competition went Team C comprising Deputy Minister of Defence Dato Paduka Haji Mustappa; His Excellency Brigadier General (Retd) Muhammad Zareef Malik, High Commissioner of Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Brunei Darussalam; His Excellency Nguyen Truong Giang, Ambassador of The Socialist Republic of Viet Nam to Brunei Darussalam and General Dato Paduka Seri Tan Sri Dato’ Seri (Dr) Zulkifeli bin Mohd Zain, Chief of Malaysian Armed Forces.
The 11th BISAM trophy presentation commenced with the marching of Pipes and Drums from the Royal Brunei Land Forces.
In the 11th BISAM, the ‘Individual Rifle Match’ was won by Brunei. The ‘Overall Team Rifle Match’ was won by Republic of Indonesia. The ‘Overall Individual Pistol Match’ was won by the Republic of Indonesia. The ‘Overall Team Pistol Match’ went to the Republic of Indonesia.
The ‘Overall GPMG Pair Match’ was won by the Republic of Indonesia. The ‘Overall Team GPMG’ was won by the Republic of Indonesia. While the winner of ‘Rifle Falling Plate’ went to Republic of Indonesia.
This year’s championship title was once again seized by Republic of Indonesia.
His Majesty then consented to officially close the 11th BISAM followed by the flag lowering ceremony of the 16 participating countries. The closing ceremony was also highlighted with fireworks and colourful smokes throughout the shooting field and a fly-past of two Royal Brunei Air Force helicopters. A replica of a 5.56-mm ammunition round was returned to its case to symbolise the official closing of the 11th BISAM.
A ‘Doa Selamat’ was read by the Assistant Head of RBAF’s Religious Department, Captain Ariffin bin Amit followed by a Royal Salute. His Majesty and His Royal Highness then proceeded to the Range Officers’ Mess for a luncheon.
After the luncheon, His Majesty was presented with a ‘Pesambah’ and the signing of Royal Parchments before departing the Binturan Shooting Range Complex.
