MUARA NAVAL BASE, Tuesday 24 March 2015 – The Ground Breaking Ceremony for the proposed Naval Training School was held at the project site at Muara Naval Base.
The event was inaugrated by the guest of honour, Dato Paduka Haji Mustappa bin Haji Sirat, Deputy Minister of Defence. The ceremony was also attended by First Admiral Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohd Tamit, Acting Commander of Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Awang Abu Sufian bin Haji Ali, Acting Permanent Secretary and Awang Haji Azhar bin Haji Ahmad, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Technology).
Also in attendance were Director, officers and staff from Directorate of Development and Work Services and Royal Brunei Navy (RBN).
The Consultants engaged for this project are Asmadee Abdullah Bumi Architect as the Architect, Sepakat Setia Perunding (B) Sdn Bhd as the M&E Engineering Consultant, Perunding Primareka as the Civil/Structural Engineering Consultants and PUBM Quantity Surveyors as the Quantity Surveyor.
The project is valued at approximately $7.8 million. Construction commenced on 31 October 2014 with a 12 months construction period with the expected date of completion on 31 October 2015. The main contractor is Unicorp (B) Sdn Bhd.
The Proposed Naval Training School will provide the training facilities such as Administration Department, Student Wing – Mechanical Engineering, Workshop, Weapon Engineering, Warfare Division and Common Facilities Wing – Common Lecture Room, Auditorium, Library and Prayer Room.
The purpose of the Naval Training School is to provide a high quality training and learning centre of excellence with suitable facilities for the study of maritime in terms of practical and theory for all RBN personnel.
The Naval Training School offers courses for RBN personnel in Navigation, Seamanship, Weapons, Fire Fighting and Damage Control, Naval Warfare, Communications and Engineering. Also, the school will offer naval technical training to ensure ship responsibilities revolve around establishing technically qualified personnel capable of the maintaining the current and any future systems throughout.
