Design Concept
The implementation for this Proposed New Military Hospital at Bolkiah Garrison under Directorate of Development and Works Services is one of many projects for the new expansion of the RBAF Medical Services.
The introduction of the new Military Hospital will transform the current use of the existing MRS which is aging and insufficient to meet the current needs and requirements to a much larger and more complete complex. The new Military Hospital will include a Medical Clinic Facility, Pharmacy and Drash store, Training Facility and Administrative Offices. The building Gross Floor Area is approximately 10,672 metres square. The proposed site, set back from the main road along Jalan Dato Hj Ahmad, will soon be given a new identity and presence with a three storey cladded building.
This scheme addresses the site accessibility and the scale of the overall surrounding buildings. As well as achieving a balanced green plot ratio with the Military Hospital Site, the design also incorporates and integrates well to create an architecture distinctive building. This is further enlivened by a covered landscape courtyard which is well ventilated and facilitate cross ventilation between the two buildings.
Within the building, the spaces are expressed by alternating the use of materials, cut out openings and void areas containing stairs and circulation. It also extends to a network of pathways and connecting bridges to link one space to another.
There are two main building wings comprised of the Medical Clinic and Medical Headquarters. The two smaller buildings are the Medical and Drash Store and Hygiene Unit. The accessibility includes a drop off area, main access road around the complex and minor service road. All these buildings support each other for the functions and uses. The main public car park is located outside the Military Hospital Complex and there are limited car parks within the Military Hospital site.
