BOLKIAH GARRISON, Thursday 15 August 2013 – Mr. Chiang Chie Foo, Permanent Secretary (Defence), Ministry of Defence, Republic of Singapore made a farewell call to the Deputy Minister of Defence, Dato Paduka Haji Mustappa bin Haji Sirat at the Ministry of Defence, and Permanent Secretary (Defence Policy and Development) Colonel (Retired) Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Azmansham bin Pengiran Haji Mohamad.

Mr. Chiang Chie Foo arrived yesterday to bid farewell to his current and former counterparts in Brunei Darussalam. Mr. Chiang Chie Foo has been appointed as Permanent Secretary (Defence) since 2004 and will retire on 1 September 2013, after 32 years in administrative service, including as Permanent Secretary of Education from 1994 to 2004.

Under his tenure, Brunei Darussalam and Singapore has agreed to set up the Defence Policy Dialogue, an annual forum to discuss bilateral defence relation at the strategic level. Brunei Darussalam and Singapore defence relation continue to prosper and develop under Mr. Chiang Chie Foo’s term.

While in Brunei Darussalam, Mr. Chiang Chie Foo also visited the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Museum and the Performance Optimization Centre in Ministry of Defence.

Brunei Darussalam and Singapore has fostered bilateral defence relations through Exchange of Letters in 1981 and 1983.  Both countries has shared warm and close defence relations, with regular exchanges in training and courses, as well as exercises involving the three services.  The regular interactions have continued to further enhance mutual understanding and friendship among officials between both defence establishments.
