SINGAPORE, Tuesday 16 February 2016 – The Singapore Airshow 2016 was officiated today with a ribbon-cutting ceremony by His Excellency Khaw Boon Wan, Singapore’s Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure And Minister for Transport, and His Excellency Dr Ng Eng Hen, Singapore’s Minister for Defence at the Changi Exhibition Centre. Brunei Darussalam’s Deputy Minister of Defence, First Admiral (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohd Tamit, was also present during the occasion as the Head of Delegation from the Ministry of Defence Brunei Darussalam for the biennial event.
After the official opening of the Singapore Airshow 2016, First Admiral (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz had the opportunity to witness an aerobatic flying display performed by various commercial aircraft companies and air forces around the world.
During the visit, the Deputy Minister of Defence also made a courtesy call to His Excellency Dr Ng Eng Hen, where both sides expressed satisfaction at the level of cooperation between the two defence establishments. This strong and close cooperation is underscored by the frequent exchanges of visits between defence and military officials, as well as the conduct of exercises and courses from respective Ministries. This year, both countries will also jointly host the ADMM-Plus Maritime Security and Counter-Terrorism Exercise, a multilateral exercise focusing on interoperability and rapid practical responses among 18 member countries from 02 to 12 May 2016. Both sides also discussed on current regional and international security issues, as well as other areas of mutual interests.
The Singapore Airshow is one of Asia’s largest and most important aerospace and defence exhibitions in the world. It has evolved and expanded since its first edition in 2008 to become a key platform to tap into emerging opportunities, engage in dialogues and showcase technologies. This year, it has attracted some 1,000 exhibitors from around 50 countries, and is expected to generate multi-billions in total value of deals.
