BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Monday, 28 September 2015 – Deputy Defence Minister, Dato Paduka Haji Mustappa bin Haji Sirat attended the 82nd Anniversary of the Malaysian Armed Forces celebration as the guest of honour and representing for the Government of Negara Brunei Darussalam last evening. The celebration was organised by the Defence Advisor Office, Malaysian High Commission in Brunei Darussalam at the Radisson Hotel here in the Sultanate.
Speaking on behalf of the Chief of Defence Force Malaysian Armed Forces, the Defence Advisor, Colonel Reduan bin Haji Omar, in his speech said that the presence of Dato Paduka Haji Mustappa is a testimony of His Majesty Government’s commitment to continue to work closely with the Malaysian Armed Forces and to further strengthen the special relations and ties that bind between the Malaysian Armed Forces and Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF).
Colonel Reduan further emphasised that the defence relationship between the two Armed Forces has been regarded as excellent. This includes the strong and close relations with all Bruneian, and their neighbours and allies. Both the RBAF and the Malaysia Armed Forces has been working together in many areas of cooperation and remains strong whereby both side has work closely together in the aspect of training, military exercises, courses and intelligence exchanged.
Since 2008 Brunei Darusssalam has joined the Malaysian Armed Forces in sending troops to be part of UNIFIL (United Nation Interim Force In Lebanon) peace-keeping operations known as MALBATT (Malaysian Battalion). Currently, there are 29 personnel from the RBAF deployed in MALBATT Contingent 850-3 adjoining the 850 peacekeepers; of which 821 personnel from Malaysian Armed Forces.
Also present at the celebration were RBAF Deputy Commander, Service Commanders and Joint Force Commander RBAF.
