JEJU, REPUBLIC OF KOREA, Friday, 12 October 2018 – The 16th Western Pacific Naval Symposium (WPNS), was hosted by the Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN) today, with the theme “Enhancing Maritime Security Cooperation in the Western Pacific Region”.

Held in conjunction with the International Fleet Review (IFR) 2018, this year’s symposium was chaired by Admiral Sim Seung-seob, Chief of Naval Operation (CNO) ROKN.


The Minister of National Defense for Republic of Korea, Minister Jeong Kyeong-doo was also in attendance together with Chief of Navies and representatives from 46 countries. Representing the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) was First Admiral Pengiran Dato Seri Pahlawan Norazmi bin Pengiran Haji Muhammad, Commander of Royal Brunei Navy.

This year’s WPNS achieved a milestone in their collaboration when the members endorsed the “Disaster Response Operations Guide 2.0” document which encapsulates guidelines for disaster response and legal considerations in alignment with the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). The WPNS members also agreed to endorse the Code for Unplanned Encounters at Sea (CUES) Steering Committee Terms of Reference. This year, the WPNS welcomed the Ecuadorian Navy and Sri Lanka Navy to be observers.


The next WPNS which convenes biennially will be held in the Republic of Philippines in 2020. As a prelude to the symposium, the Royal Brunei Navy will host the WPNS workshop in April 2019.

PEMERINTAH TENTERA LAUT DIRAJA BRUNEI HADIRI WESTERN PACIFIC NAVAL SYMPOSIUM KE-16 TAHUN 2018

JEJU, REPUBLIK KOREA, Jumaat, 12 Oktober 2018 – Western Pacific Naval Symposium (WPNS) yang ke-16 telah dihoskan oleh Tentera Laut Republik Korea (TLRK) dengan tema “Enhancing Maritime Security Cooperation in the Western Pacific Region”.

Dianjurkan bersempena dengan International Fleet Review (IFR) 2018, simposium bagi tahun ini dipengerusikan oleh Admiral Sim Seung-Seob, Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) TLRK.


Menteri Pertahanan Republik Korea Jeong Kyuong-doo juga turut hadir bersama dengan Pemerintah-pemerintah dan perwakilan Angkatan Laut dari 46 negara. Turut hadir ialah Laksamana Pertama Pengiran Dato Seri Pahlawan Norazmi bin Pengiran Haji Muhammad, Tentera Laut Diraja Brunei (TLDB).

WPNS pada tahun ini mencapai peristiwa penting di mana ahli-ahli bersetuju untuk menyokong dokumen “Disaster Response Operations Guide 2.0” yang memberikan garis pandu dan maklumat lengkap untuk tindak balas bencana dan aspek undang-undang sejajar dengan United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

Ahli WPNS turut mengesahkan “Code for Unplanned Encounters at Sea Steering Committee Terms of Reference”. Pada tahun ini, WPNS juga bersetuju dan menyambut Tentera Laut Ecuador dan Tentera Laut Sri Lanka sebagai pemerhati.

Simposium WPNS seterusnya yang diadakan setiap dua tahun akan dianjurkan pada tahun 2020 di Republik Filipina. Sebagai persiapan kepada simposium itu, TLDB akan menganjurkan bengkel WPNS pada bulan April 2019.
