BOLKIAH GARRISON, Monday, 29 October 2018 – The second and final phase of the 10th Brunei – Singapore Defence Scholars Development Programme (10th BSDSDP) concluded today in a ceremony at the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies after two-weeks of leadership-centric lessons, team-building activities and dialogue sessions.
The first phase of the 10th BSDSDP was hosted in Singapore from 22 to 26 October 2018, followed by the Brunei phase from 26 to 30 October 2018, involving 20 scholars, with 10 scholars from each Ministry of Defence.
Present at the closing ceremony from Brunei Darussalam were Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Retired) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd. Yussof, Second Minister of Defence; Yang Berhormat Major General (Retired) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports; Major General Pengiran Dato Paduka Seri Aminan bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud, Commander of Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF); Permanent Secretaries of the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports; Deputy Permanent Secretaries of the Ministry of Defence; directors from various ministries, including youth leaders and non-government officers. Other Bruneian alumni of the previous BSDSDP also attended the ceremony.
Mr. Chan Yeng Kit, Permanent Secretary (Defence) of Ministry of Defence of Republic of Singapore, accompanied by Brigadier General Chua Boon Keat, Commandant of SAFTI Military Institute (MI); and Colonel Lim Lit Lam, Head of Centre for Leadership Development (CLD) SAFTI MI were present during the closing ceremony to represent the Ministry of Defence of Republic of Singapore.
The Brunei Darussalam phase included visits to various ministries and non-governmental agencies, which subsequently, culminated in three sharing sessions on the final day. The participants shared their experiences and views on topics, which were “Challenges in Defence, Prospects for Cooperation”, “Roles of Young Leaders in Nation Building”, and “Life after BSDSDP”.
Since its inauguration in 2007, the BSDSDP is one of the initiatives by the Ministries of Defence of both Brunei Darussalam and Singapore to contribute to the personal development and professional careers of the scholarship recipients from both ministries. The 10th iteration of the BSDSDP celebrates the decade-long friendship and cooperation between the young scholars’ of the two countries, bringing together the alumni members of the previous BSDSDP to reconnect and reinvigorate the bonds of friendships that were established prior.
A key pillar in the bilateral relations between Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of Singapore, defence has played a significant role among whole-of-government initiatives in shaping the engagement and cooperation between both countries. The BSDSDP has been essential in building the foundation of people-to-people relations at the junior-level with a view that the camaraderie and friendships are a life-long investment for both Ministries of Defence.




MAJLIS PENUTUP FASA KEDUA BRUNEI-SINGAPORE DEFENCE SCHOLARS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM YANG KE-10
BOLKIAH GARRISON, Isnin, 29 Oktober 2018 – Fasa kedua dan terakhir Brunei-Singapore Defence Scholars Development Program yang ke-10 (10th BSDSDP) berakhir hari ini dalam satu majlis penutup di Institut Pengajian Pertahanan dan Strategik Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah selepas pengendalian pelajaran kepimpinan, aktiviti-aktiviti bagi memantapkan tahap kepimpinan dan sesi dialog selama dua minggu.
Fasa pertama tersebut dihoskan di Republik Singapura bermula dari 22 hingga 26 Oktober 2018, diikuti dengan fasa Brunei dari 26 hingga 30 Oktober 2018, yang melibatkan seramai 20 orang mahasiswa/mahasiswi, yang mana 10 orang adalah daripada Kementerian Pertahanan dari setiap negara.
Hadir di majlis penutup tersebut ialah Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Mejar Jeneral (Bersara) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd. Yussof, Menteri Pertahanan Kedua; Yang Berhormat Mejar Jeneral (Bersara) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Menteri Kebudayaan, Belia dan Sukan; Mejar Jeneral Pengiran Dato Paduka Seri Aminan bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud, Pemerintah Angkatan Bersenjata Diraja Brunei (ABDB); Setiausaha-Setiausaha Tetap Kementerian Pertahanan dan Kementerian Kebudayaan, Belia dan Sukan; Timbalan-Timbalan Setiausaha Tetap Kementerian Pertahanan; pengarah-pengarah dari pelbagai kementerian, termasuk pemimpin belia dan pegawai bukan kerajaan. Turut hadir adalah pegawai-pegawai Negara Brunei Darussalam yang terdiri dari alumni peserta BSDSDP yang terdahulu.
Chan Yeng Kit, Setiausaha Tetap (Pertahanan) Kementerian Pertahanan Republik Singapura, disertai oleh Brigedier Jeneral Chua Boon Keat, Komandan SAFTI Military Institute (MI); Kolonel Lim Lit Lam, Ketua Centre for Leadership Development (CLD) SAFTI MI juga hadir semasa majlis penutup bagi mewakili Kementerian Pertahanan Republik Singapura.
Fasa Negara Brunei Darussalam merangkumi tiga sesi perkongsian, di mana para peserta berkongsi pengalaman dan pandangan mereka mengenai topik “Challenges in Defence, Prospects for Cooperation”, “Roles of Young Leaders in Nation Building”, dan “Life after BSDSDP”.
Sejak BSDSDP bermula pada tahun 2007, ianya merupakan salah satu inisiatif Kementerian Pertahanan Negara Brunei Darussalam dan Republik Singapura dalam menyumbang kepada perkembangan peribadi dan kerjaya profesional penerima-penerima biasiswa dari kedua buah negara. BSDSDP yang ke-10 ini meraikan hubungan keakraban dan kerjasama di antara penerima-penerima biasiswa di dalam kedua negara, di mana program ini bertujuan bagi menyatukan ahli-ahli alumni BSDSDP untuk menyambung semula dan menyemai ikatan persahabatan yang telah dipupuk sebelum ini.
Sebagai ciri utama dalam hubungan dua hala antara Negara Brunei Darussalam dan Republik Singapura, bidang pertahanan telah memainkan peranan penting di antaralain inisiatif keseluruhan kerajaan dalam membentuk pertalian dan kerjasama antara kedua-dua negara. BSDSDP adalah penting dalam membina asas hubungan persahabatan di peringkat rendah sebagai pelaburan sepanjang hayat bagi kedua-dua Kementerian Pertahanan.
