SINGAPORE, Wednesday 3 August 2016 – The Singapore phase of the 8th Brunei-Singapore Defence Scholars Development Programme (8th BSDSDP) concluded today through a closing ceremony held at the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Center for Leadership Development (CLD) after a week-long activities from 29 July 2016 to 3 August 2016.
The Director of Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies (SHHBIDSS), Muhammad Shahrul Nizzam bin Umar was welcomed by the Commandant of SAFTI Military Institute, Rear-Admiral Giam Hock Koon and the Head of SAF CLD, Colonel (COL) Fred Tan Wel Shi.
During the closing ceremony, the director of SHHBIDSS and the commandant of SAFTI Military Institute were lead by the scholars through their week-long journey of self-discovery and self-reflection, where they began to gain awareness on who they really are, what their values are as well as their purpose in life. The scholars shared their experiences from the battlefield tour of Changi Chapel, Bukit Chandu and Kranji War Memorial, the classroom learning on different models and concepts relating to leadership, as well as their tetra personality style through skits and personal stories.
The 8th BSDSDP involved a total of sixteen (16) scholars, with eight (8) scholars from each country. This year Brunei participants consist of six (6) scholarship recipients from Ministry of Defence and two (2) from Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (Sultan’s Scholar). This leadership development programme is an annual program where defence scholars from both countries come together for a two weeks long (a week in Singapore and a week in Brunei) self-development journey to discover and explore their inner self as a person and as a leader through physical and mental activities. This is one of the initiatives to foster and strengthen the friendship between Brunei and Singapore.
