
BOLKIAH GARRISON, Thursday 20 October 2016 – First Admiral (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohd Tamit, Deputy Minister of Defence today received a call from The Honourable Ricardo Aguirre David Jr, Undersecretary for Defense Policy/Acting Undersecretary of National Defense, Department of National Defense of the Republic of Philippines, who is in Brunei Darussalam for the 8th Joint Defence Working Committee meeting between Brunei Darussalam and the Philippines.
During the call, they discussed issues of mutual concern as well as expressed their satisfaction on the cordial and warm defence relations between the two countries, as manifested by the frequent high level exchanges of visits and reciprocal participation of military courses in each other’s military institutions.
The Ministry of Defence of Brunei Darussalam and the Department of National Defense of the Republic of the Philippines this morning convened their 8th Joint Defence Working Committee (JDWC) meeting at the Officers’ Mess of the Bolkiah Garrison. Datin Paduka Hajah Suriyah binti Haji Umar, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence and The Honourable Ricardo Aguirre David Jr, co-chaired the meeting.
Defence officials from the two countries exchanged perspectives on regional security matters, which included recent updates on the maritime security, counter terrorism, and other non-traditional security issues. Both sides firmly acknowledged the utility of the ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) and the ADMM-Plus in promoting practical cooperation and trust among defence forces in the region. The Philippines representatives also gave an update on the Peace Process and the situation in Mindanao. Brunei Darussalam deploys security personnel as part of the International Monitoring Team since 2004 and has been a member of the Independent Decommissioning Body along with Turkey and Norway since 2014.
The two sides also examined avenues that would further promote Brunei Darussalam-Philippines bilateral defence relations through exchanges of visits, participations in each other’s education and training activities, the conduct of military exercises and the hosting of intelligence exchanges.
The JDWC between Brunei and the Philippines was established through the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on defence cooperation signed in 2001. The next JDWC meeting will be held in the Philippines.





NEGARA BRUNEI DARUSSALAM DAN REPUBLIK FILIPINA MENGADAKAN MESYUARAT JAWATANKUASA KERJA PERTAHANAN BERSAMA KALI KE-8

Laksamana Pertama (B) Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohd Tamit, Timbalan Menteri Pertahanan hari ini menerima kunjungan dari Yang Berhormat Ricardo Aguirre David Jr, Undersecretary for Defense Policy/Acting Undersecretary of National Defense, Jabatan Pertahanan Negara, Republik Filipina, yang sedang berada di Negara Brunei Darussalam untuk menghadiri Mesyuarat Jawatankuasa Kerja Pertahanan Bersama buat kali ke-8 di antara Negara Brunei Darussalam and Filipina.
Semasa kunjungan tersebut, kedua-dua pihak telah membincangkan isu-isu kepentingan bersama serta menyatakan rasa berpuas hati di atas hubungan pertahanan dua hala yang baik di antara Negara Brunei Darusalam dan Filipina melalui pertukaran-pertukaran lawatan di peringkat tinggi dan penyertaan timbal-balik kursus-kursus ketenteraan di institusi tempatan tentera masing-masing.
Kementerian Pertahanan Negara Brunei Darussalam dan Jabatan Pertahanan Negara Republik Filipina pagi ini telah mengadakan mesyuarat Jawatankuasa Kerja Pertahanan Bersama (JKPB) mereka buat kali ke-8 bertempat di Mes Pegawai Bolkiah Garison. Datin Paduka Hajah Suriyah binti Haji Umar, Setiausaha Tetap, Kementerian Pertahanan dan Yang Berhormat Ricardo Aguirre David Jr, telah mempengerusikan bersama mesyuarat tersebut.
Pegawai-pegawai pertahanan dari kedua-dua negara bertukar-tukar pandangan mengenai perkara-perkara keselamatan serantau, termasuk kemaskini maklumat mengenai keselamatan maritim, anti keganasan, dan isu-isu keselamatan bukan tradisional yang lain. Kedua-dua pihak menyedari akan kepentingan Mesyuarat Menteri-Menteri Pertahanan ASEAN (ADMM) dan ADMM-Plus dalam menggalakkan kerjasama praktikal dan kepercayaan di kalangan angkatan tentera di rantau ini. Wakil delegasi Filipina juga memberikan maklumat kemaskini mengenai Proses Damai dan keadaan di Mindanao. Negara Brunei Darussalam menghantar anggota keselamatan sebagai sebahagian dari Pasukan Pemantauan Antarabangsa (IMT) sejak 2004 selain merupakan ahli Independent Decommissioning Body (IDB) bersama dengan Turki dan Norway sejak 2014.
Kedua-dua pihak juga meneliti langkah-langkah ke arah meningkatkan lagi hubungan pertahanan dua hala Negara Brunei Darussalam-Republik Filipina melalui pertukaran lawatan, peluang penyertaan dalam kegiatan pendidikan dan latihan masing-masing, pengendalian eksesais ketenteraan dan menghoskan pertukaran perisikan.
JKPB antara Negara Brunei Darussalam dan Republik Filipina telah ditubuhkan melalui Memorandum Persefahaman (MOU) mengenai kerjasama pertahanan yang ditandatangani pada tahun 2001. Mesyuarat JKPB yang berikutnya akan diadakan di Republik Filipina.
