QASHR AL-MEEZAN, Tuesday 4 November 2014 – His Royal Highness Prince General Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Deputy Sultan and also General Of Royal Brunei Armed Forces, consented to receive in audience the Chiefs of Defense and Heads of Delegation who are attending the Asia-Pacific Chiefs of Defence Conference 2014, CHOD.

The 4-day conference is the first of its kind to be organised jointly by Brunei Darussalam and the United States of America.

The ceremony was held at Qashr Al-Meezaan. The CHOD conference was attended by high ranking military officers and representatives from 26 countries of the regional Asia-Pacific. Brunei Darussalam was represented by the Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah.

Carrying the theme “Multilateralism: Practical Cooperation towards Shared Responsibilities”, this year’s conference aim to promote an open dialogue to give opportunities to the armed forces to enhance cooperation and jointly overcoming safety issues or challenges in a more concrete and practical methods.

Introduced in 1998 by the Commander of the Army of the United States of America in the Pacific, the CHOD conference play its role as an annual gathering of the high ranking military officers to interact and discusses on matters related to defense and security. By establishing the CHOD conference, it portrays the importance of a more dynamic cooperation in discussing the various challenges in security faced by the regional Asia Pacific.

Also present during the ceremony was the Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office, Dato Paduka Awang Haji Muhd Juanda bin Haji Abdul Rashid.
