
JAKARTA, Thursday, 16 February 2023 – The first ASEAN Defence Senior Officials’ Meeting Working Group (ADSOM WG) and ADSOM-Plus WG meetings under the Republic of Indonesia’s Chairmanship of the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) concluded on Thursday, following a successful run from 14th to 16th February 2023 in Jakarta, Republic of Indonesia. Both meetings were chaired by Brigadier General Steverly C. Parengkuan, Director for Defence International Cooperation, Directorate General of Defence Strategy, Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Indonesia, in his capacity as Indonesia’s ADSOM WG and ADSOM-Plus WG Leader.
Yang Mulia Haji Adi Ihram bin Dato Paduka Haji Mahmud, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Policy and Strategy), attended the meetings as Brunei Darussalam’s ADSOM WG and ADSOM-Plus WG Leader. He was accompanied by Colonel Dr Haji Awg Mohd Hafizul bin Haji Awg Mohd Hassan, Chief Medical Officer, Medical Services, Royal Brunei Land Force (RBLF), and officers from the Directorate of Defence Policy.
During the ADSOM WG, the meeting shared updates on the progress of ASEAN defence cooperation initiatives, including the Logistics Support Framework (LSF), the ASEAN Direct Communications Infrastructure (ADI), ADMM Three Year Work Programme 2023-2025 and consideration of new ADMM initiatives. Brunei Darussalam also updated the ADSOM WG on the progress of “A Future-Ready ADMM and ADMM-Plus: A Strategy Paper”. Meanwhile, the ADSOM-Plus WG observed progress reports on the seven areas of cooperation under the ADMM-Plus Experts’ Working Groups (EWGs), for which Brunei Darussalam currently co-chairs the ADMM-Plus EWG on Military Medicine alongside Australia.
Several bilateral meetings were held on the sidelines with the Republic of Indonesia, the Kingdom of Thailand, Australia, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand and the People’s Republic of China.
The ADSOM WG and ADSOM-Plus WG Leaders met in preparation for the upcoming ADSOM and ADSOM-Plus, which is scheduled to be held in June this year.



MESYUARAT KUMPULAN KERJA PEGAWAI-PEGAWAI KANAN PERTAHANAN ASEAN (ADSOM WG) DAN ADSOM-PLUS WG DIADAKAN DI REPUBLIK INDONESIA
JAKARTA, Khamis, 16 Februari 2023 – Mesyuarat Kumpulan Kerja Mesyuarat Pegawai-Pegawai Kanan Pertahanan ASEAN (ADSOM WG) dan ADSOM-Plus WG di bawah pengerusi Republik Indonesia selesai berlangsung pada hari Khamis, berikut pengendalian secara rasmi dari 14 hingga 16 Februari 2023 di Jakarta, Republik Indonesia. Kedua-dua mesyuarat berkenaan dipengerusikan oleh Brigedier Jeneral Steverly C. Parengkuan, Director for Defence International Cooperation, Directorate General of Defence Strategy, Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Indonesia, selaku Ketua ADSOM WG dan ADSOM-Plus WG Republik Indonesia.
Yang Mulia Haji Adi Ihram bin Dato Paduka Haji Mahmud, Timbalan Setiausaha Tetap (Dasar dan Strategi), telah menghadiri mesyuarat-mesyuarat tersebut sebagai Ketua ADSOM WG dan ADSOM-Plus WG Negara Brunei Darussalam. Beliau diiringi oleh Kolonel Dr Haji Awg Mohd Hafizul bin Haji Awg Mohd Hassan, Ketua Pegawai Perubatan, Unit Khidmat Perubatan dan Kesihatan, Tentera Darat Diraja Brunei (TDDB), dan pegawai-pegawai dari Jabatanarah Dasar Pertahanan.
Antara agenda yang dikongsikan semasa mesyuarat ADSOM WG adalah perkembangan inisiatif-inisiatif kerjasama pertahanan ASEAN antara lain termasuk Logistics Support Framework (LSF), ASEAN Direct Communications Infrastructure (ADI), Program Kerja Tiga Tahun Mesyuarat ADMM (2023-2025) dan perbincangan mengenai inisiatif baharu ADMM. Di samping itu, Negara Brunei Darussalam juga mengongsikan kemas kini bagi “A Future-Ready ADMM and ADMM-Plus: A Strategy Paper”. Manakala mesyuarat ADSOM-Plus WG mengongsikan laporan perkembangan bagi ketujuh-tujuh bidang kerjasama di bawah Kumpulan Kerja Pakar ADMM-Plus, yang mana Negara Brunei Darussalam sedang mempengerusikan bersama Kumpulan Kerja Pakar ADMM-Plus mengenai Perubatan Tentera bersama Australia.
Di samping itu juga, beberapa mesyuarat dua hala turut diadakan secara sampingan termasuk bersama Republik Indonesia, Kerajaan Thailand, Australia, Republik Korea, New Zealand dan Republik Rakyat China.
Mesyuarat ADSOM WG dan ADSOM-Plus WG telah diadakan sebagai persiapan bagi mesyuarat ADSOM dan ADSOM-Plus yang akan dijadualkan berlangsung pada bulan Jun tahun ini.
