INDONESIA, Friday 13 Sept 2013 - The first Asia Pacific regional counter terrorism exercise involving over 500 military personnel from 18 countries has officially closed at the International Peace and Security Center (IPSC) in Sentul, West Java.
The participating countries comprising all 10 of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member countries and their eight partner countries — the United States, Australia, New Zealand, China, Japan, South Korea, India and Russia discussed and shared their best on counterterrorism practices during the event.
The exercise, which was the first joint multinational counter-terrorism exercise in the world, is part of the ASEAN Defense Ministers Meeting (ADMM) Plus, in which Indonesia and the US have been appointed co-chairs for the counter-terrorism working group, while Australia and Singapore will be the next co-chairs.
The closing ceremony also witnessed TNI’s in a simulation of an anti-terror operation involving 100 military personnel from the anti-terror units from 10 of the participating countries and 60 military personnel from Army’s anti-terror unit (SAT-81), Navy’s anti-terror unit (Denjaka) and Air Force’s anti-terror unit (Denbravo). During the demonstration, the military used its own primary defense equipment, including helicopters sea riders, and a robot detector.
The Indonesian Minister of Defence who was the guest of honor, also presented trophies to winners on both shooting and obstacle course competition. Despite the mixed of personnel from different countries to form teams, two of RBAF personnel who were the leaders received their winning trophies. Sergeant Musliyadi from SFR, Shooting Team 3rd Prize Winner and , Captain Mohd Sukrin Sufian as the Team leader for his team winning the obstacle course competition.
