BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Monday 18 Nov 2013 - The Royal Brunei Armed Force (RBAF) and the US Navy reached out to the community through a joint band performance and enlivened a few places in the Sultanate during the week of the 19th Cooperation Afloat Readiness and training (CARAT) 2013 Exercise.
They played a medley of acoustic songs, popular songs people listen which plays on the radio and on television both in English and Malay language. Those places were filled with jazz, folk songs and also nursery rhymes accompanied by the sound of tambourines, guitars and flute.
The bands started out performing for students, teacher, parents and guardians at the Learning Ladders Society in Gadong last Friday who all had the opportunity to witness and experience a live band performance for the first time at the centre. The following day, both bands appeared on the morning local TV show Rampai Pagi and played live for the viewers. While in the evening hundreds of people cheered and sang along to various musical numbers of 2-hour mix of English and Malay evergreen and contemporary songs at the atrium of The Mall in Gadong. Yesterday, they played at the Dermaga Diraja, both in the morning and afternoon.
Today both the RBAF and US Navy bands made a stage performance in front of students of the Jerudong International School (JIS) and they also had the opportunity to learn music from members of the band. The bands’ visit to the school was to expose and educate students involve in the college band to various music genres, styles and rythm, which they have not heard before, and apply them in their music education.
