BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Friday 26 April 2013 – A talk customised to the Engineers and Technicians of the Ministry of Defence and the Royal Brunei Armed Forces on routes to registration as a Professional Engineer was held last Friday by Mike Bridgefoot, CEng FIET who is currently the Registration and Standards Manager from The Institution of Engineering and Technology, United Kingdom (IET, UK).

More than 70 military and civilian engineers and technicians from the Ministry of Defence and the Royal Brunei Armed Forces who attended the talk had the opportunity to learn and understand the background of IET, the benefits of membership and more particularly the routes to and the various levels of Professional Registration. 

Throughout, Mike Bridgefoot was able to answer various questions ranging from what the UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence (UK-SPEC) is, the various competencies from A, B, C & D, the processes and assistances offered for application for membership and professional registration.

To date, the IET, as a non-profit organization is the world’s largest institution offering various levels of internationally recognised Professional Registration applicable to anyone working within the engineering and technology field depending on the scope of work, experience, skills, knowledge and other qualifications.  

The IET has over 140 years of history based in the United Kingdom with over 150,000 members in 127 countries and Local Networks in 37 countries including Brunei Darussalam.  The IET Brunei Darussalam Local Network is setup with a vision to share and advance knowledge throughout the global Science, Engineering and Technology (SET) community contributing towards national development.

Professional Registrations on offer by IET are the Chartered Engineer (CEng), Incoporated Engineer (IEng), Engineering Technician (Eng Tech) and for ICT personnel the ICT Technician (ICT Tech).
