RIMBA, Monday 10 June 2013 – The Foundation Laying Ceremony for the proposed Air Movement Centre was held at the project site at Royal Brunei Air Force Base.
The event was inaugurated by the guest of honour Brigadier General (U) Haji Wardi bin Haji Abdul Latip, Commander of Royal Brunei Air Force. The ceremony was also attended by Pg Haji Menudin bin PLW Pg Haji Yussof, Director of Development and Work Services, officers and staff from Royal Brunei Air Force and Directorate of Development and Work Services.
The Consultants engaged for this project are Arkitek KHA as the Architect, Hamidon and Associates as the M&E Engineering Consultant, Seri Bumi Consultant as the Civil/Structural Engineering Consultants and Z-Arif Consultant as the Quantity Surveyor.
The project is valued at approximately $3.8 million. Construction commenced on 29 April 2013 with a 5 months construction period with the expected date of completion on 28 September 2013. The main contractor is LSL Sdn Bhd.
Design Concept
Air Movement Centre (AMC) design concept is modern and sophisticated simple form. It is a statement to convey the vision of Royal Brunei Air Force for being high technological in providing air defence to the country.
The building is basically formed by 9 metres x 9 metres grid to allow high degree of flexibility in open planning concept. With its 4.5 metres ceiling height at most of the open area, the space gives the advantage to provide openness and balance horizontal and vertical essence.
AMC large window opening is to encourage light gaining to the inner space. At the same time it brings the external feature of the openness of the runway and taxi way to be part of the interior.
It’s location at the end of the main road and beside the runaway, gives the privilege to be the first impression both from land and air. Being white in clustered form and almost iconic, AMC is recognisable to be the point of entry that suit to its function to provide border control as well.
The study of sun movement throughout the year during the design stage encourages the green initiative to AMC. The over-hang and sun breakers at the north-west forms architectural feature of which indicates the green approach is by passive design rather than technological. The gentle slope and almost flat roof with gutter has provided future initiative to harvest both solar energy and rain water.
