SG AKAR, Monday 8 July 2013 – His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar `Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Minister of Defence and Supreme Commander of Royal Brunei Armed Force (RBAF) consented to officiate the Sovereign’s Parade Ceremony for the 9th Intake Officer Cadets. The ceremony took place at the Parade Square of the RBAF Officer Cadet School (OCS) in Sungai Akar Camp this morning.
Accompanying His Majesty was His Royal Highness Lieutenant Prince Abdul Mateen.
The arrival of His Majesty was greeted by the Deputy Minister of Defence, Dato Paduka Haji Mustappa bin Haji Sirat and the Commander of RBAF, Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin.
Shortly after the arrival, His Majesty received the Royal Salute and inspected the Static Guard of Honour mounted by personnel of the Royal Brunei Land Force (RBLF). His Royal Highness was later ushered to the dais and once again received the Royal Salute from 26 Officer Cadets of the 9th Intake and 25 Officer Cadets of the 10th Intake.
In the titah, His Majesty highlighted that every military officers are required to carry out the duties and responsibilities carefully and diligently while preserving order in accordance with the principles of legislation and regulations.
His Majesty appreciates the role of parents and families in providing encouragement and support to their children in their career. His Majesty also congratulated 26 Officer Cadets who were commissioned as officers of the RBAF who had been exposed to 42 weeks of military training, with the aim of equipping them with knowledge, faith and leadership skills.
His Majesty then conferred awards on the best officer cadets from the RBAF Officer Cadet School’s 9th Intake.
The most prestigious ‘Sword of Honour Award’, was presented to 21709 Officer Cadet Siti Syamimi bte Haji Emrant who earned through excellence in all aspects of training, sword recipients are recognized for their exemplary performance and leadership qualities. She holds a Science Masters in The Science of Occupational Health and the Environment from University of Birminghamn, United Kingdom.
The second award for the ‘Best Overall in Academic Award’ was presented to 50256 Officer Cadet Mohd Adi Asmawi bin Awang Adanan, who has been described as possessing intellect, thorough and critical thinker throughout the training duration. He holds HND in Sport Development and Coaching from University of Wales Institute, Cardiff, United Kingdom.
‘Best Military Skills Award’ was presented to 50246 Officer Cadet Muhd Hifzullah bin haji Mat Yamin. He holds Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from University of Manchester. This award is given to an Officer Cadet who has been selected among the best in the most excellent achievement in all Military Skill subjects.
Finally, for ‘Best in Physical Training Endurance Award’ was presented to 21714 Officer Cadet (L) Nurul Hairani bte Abdul Hamid. She holds Degree in bachelor of Physical Education from University Brunei Darussalam. This award is in recognition of the best achievement for an Officer Cadet in outstanding physical training accomplishment throughout the training period.
A Doa Selamat was then read by the Deputy Head of RBAF Religious Department (JA’MAAT), Captain Ariffin bin Amit.
From the parade square, His Majesty and His Royal Highness proceeded to the Sungai Akar Officers’ Mess and consented to receive a Pesambah entitled ‘Qiyadul Faizin’, an Arabic word which means a successful leader. The Pesembah focus on the bow and arrow symbolizing the level of concentration of high skill test each archer and supports the core values of the Officer Cadet School that are Loyalty, Piety and Courage. The cadets also presented their journey book, which documented their training over the last 42 weeks to His Majesty.
The event then saw a ‘junjung ziarah’ from the Officer Cadets with their families on His Majesty and His Royal Highness before His Majesty sign the Royal Parchment.
Prior to leaving the ceremony, His Majesty and His Royal Highness consented to receive another ‘junjung ziarah’ from instructors and officers of the Officer Cadet School. The event then ended with a group photo session.
