BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Friday 20 Sept 2013 – The Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council (MS ABDB) were crowned overall champions of the Brunei Darussalam National Pencak Silat Championship. MS ABDB successfully defended their title after picking up 12 medals seven gold, four silver and one bronze.
The final day saw seven final bouts at the Multipurpose Hall of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas. National athlete Md Khairul Azmi Hj Sulaiman, representing MS ABDB, lived up to his billing by beating Royal Brunei Police Forces Sports Council’s (MS PDB) Md Hafizuddin 5-0 in the 55-60kg. Throughout the fight it was clear that Md Khairul was the better fighter of the two, taking Md Hafizuddin to the ground numerous times.
Md Hafizuddin looked hesitant and barely found any opportunities to strike Md Khairul. Md Khairul told The Brunei Times, “Alhamdulillah, I managed to defend my title.”
“The final wasn’t that easy for me because Md Hafizuddin used to be one of the top fighters that represented Temburong. “It was quite competitive amongst the participants that we have in Brunei and a lot of people took part,” he said. “It’s good that we have this every year because it helps to scout out new talent for the national team. Plus it shows who is good enough to represent the country in overseas tournaments,” he added. “I see it as something really good because we need the new generation to come in because they will need to replace us when we retire. “Most of us representing MS ABDB used to be in the national team,” added Khairul.
Other winners were Afiq Aiman Hj Aine from Tutong (50-55kg), Hj Abdul Hafiz Al-Hadri from MS ABDB (60-65kg), Norleyermah Hj Raya from Brunei-Muara (women’s 45-50kg and women’s kuntau), Md Syafi Md Sufri from Belait (65-70kg) and Nurul Aimi Amalina Zainidi from Brunei-Muara (women’s cekak asli).
The event held in conjuction with the birthday of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam attracted eight teams Brunei-Muara, Belait, Temburong, Tutong, MS ABDB, MS PDB, Sports School Council and the Prisons Department.
Present as the guest of honour to award the winners with their respective prizes was YAM Pg Anak Haji Abdul Wadood Bolkiah Pg Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pg Anak Haji Abdul Aziz.
PASUKAN SILAT MS ABDB MEMPERTAHANKAN KEJUARAAN, 10 TAHUN BERTURUT-TURUT
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Jumaat 20 Sept 2013 – Seperti lazimnya, acara Sukan Pencak Silat adalah merupakan salah satu acara yang diadakan sempena merayakan Puja Usia Hari Keputeraan Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan dan Yang Di Pertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam. Sehubungan dengan itu, Kejuaraan Silat Cakak Asli, Kuntau, Silat Tanding dan Silat Beladiri sempena perayaan Puja Usia Hari Keputeraan Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan dan Yang Di Pertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam yang ke 67 tahun, Peringkat Kebangsaan 2013, telah diadakan bermula pada 16 sehingga 20 September 2013, bertempat di Dewan Serbaguna Stadium Negara Hassanal Bolkiah, Berakas.
Sekali lagi, Pasukan Silat MS ABDB berjaya mempertahankan kedudukan mereka sebagai juara selama 10 tahun berturut-turut. Sepanjang pertandingan tersebut diadakan, pasukan pesilat-pesilat MS ABDB telah berkesempatan menunjukkan kemahiran mereka dengan pesilat-pesilat yang mewakili dearah-dearah, Majlis Sukan Sekolah-Sekolah dan Jabatan-Jabatan Kerajaan Berseragam masing-masing.
Masa latihan yang terhad tidak menjadi halangan bagi pesilat-pesilat MS ABDB yang telah dapat menunjukan kemahiran yang cukup mantap dalam pertandingan tersebut. Walau bagaimana pun, pasukan pesilat MS ABDB berhasrat akan berusaha lagi untuk mempertingkatkan prestasi persilatan mereka supaya setiasa beraksi dengan terbaik di dalam pertandingan pada masa yang akan datang.
