BOLKIAH GARRISON, Wednesday 2 Oct 2013 – A signing ceremony for the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Concerning Cooperation And Students Attachment at the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) and The Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) was held this morning between the Ministry of Defence and Politeknik Brunei. The event was held at the Public Relations Unit conference room Ministry of Defence.

The MOU was signed by the Acting Director of Administration and Manpower, Awang Nor Aidil bin Haji Abu Bakar on behalf of the Ministry of Defence.

Signing on behalf of Politeknik Brunei, Acting Director, Mr Denis Ho Mun Tai.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by the Special Grade Administrative Officer at the Directorate of Administration and Manpower for the Ministry of Defence and the Acting Assistant Director from Politeknik Brunei.

Over the years, the Ministry of Defence and the RBAF have provided attachment to technical and vocational students. The first MOUs was inked separately on 31 January 2012 between the Ministry of Defence with the Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), Institut Teknologi Brunei (ITB) and the Department of Technical Education (DTE), Ministry of Education (MOE). The MOU will provide a more structured and efficient approach of managing the placement of these students so that it will achieve its desired objectives.

The overall objective of the MOU is to promote cooperation through the provision of student attachment from the educational institutions to the Ministry of Defence and RBAF, in support of the national human resources development policies. Through this collaboration, the Ministry of Defence shall provide the students with opportunities to apply their  technology and management skills through a structured working experience, and at the same time to stimulate their interests and awareness in defence technology, and security and defence management matters.

The MOU will also provide the students from Politeknik Brunei with the following:-

•    a programme of structured work experience whereby the students will achieve an agreed objective in work discipline, work safety and working with others;

•    a real work-based environment to enhance their learning and achievement; and

•    an opportunity to observe first-hand application of technical skills and the implementation of management structures.

It also promotes closer collaborations on exchange of knowledge in areas of mutual interest between the parties.

In addition, it enables the parties to participate in the human resource development of Brunei’s youth.

The targeted total number of students to undergo attachment annually for the Politeknik Brunei is fourteen. The number may be reviewed from time to time to suit existing commitment or demands.
