SG AKAR, Friday 4 Oct 2013 – The Officer Cadet School (OCS) of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) welcomes the enrolment of 11th Intake scheduled to undergo training at the School starting 4th October 2013 until August 2014.
This morning, a promotion ceremony was held at the Ghurkha Officers’ Mess of the Sg Akar Camp for 23 new cadet officers, which includes 5 MINDEF Scholars. The new ranks were presented by the Commander of RBAF Forces, Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin.
Also present at the ceremony were Services Commanders and Commandant of Defence Academy RBAF, Military Directors, Senior Officers and the families of the newly appointed officer cadets.
Out of the 23 cadet officers, 15 were from the Royal Brunei Land Force (6 males and 9 females), 4 from the Royal Brunei Navy (4 males), 4 from the Royal Brunei Air Force (4 males). Prior to the training at OCS, the cadets have to undergo a selection process where their physical and mental capabilities are assessed by the Armed Forces Commissioning Board.
The officer cadet course is spread over a period of 42 weeks with 18 weeks spent on generic and basic military trainings; 19 weeks focused on specialist trainings aligned to respective service units and six weeks on tri-service training. After undergoing the tri-service generic training term together, the service thens sees the Army, Midshipmen and Air Force cadets going off to their respective units, from where they will continue training to be Army, Naval and Air Force officers.
For the final semester, the cadets will undergo further professional development evaluations including military exercises, final assessments and the passing out parade at which all cadets achieving the mandated standards of OCS will finally be commissioned into the RBAF before returning to their respective service units.
