BOLKIAH GARRISON, Wednesday 23 Dec 2015 – The Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Sepak Takraw Tournament for 2015 concluded today at the Ministry of Defence Sports Complex in Bolkiah Garrison.
Present to witness final match of the champion for Inter-Regu Category this afternoon was the Guest of Honour, Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Dato Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah.
A total of five teams took part in the tournament which started on the 15 December 2015. They were the Royal Brunei Land Force (RBLF), Royal Brunei Navy (RBN), Royal Brunei Air Force (RBAirF), Training Institute RBAF and from the Ministry of Defence (MinDef).
Three categories were competed namely Team category, Inter-Regu category and Special (Chain of Command) category.
The Champion for Inter-Regu category is RBLF team / Training Institute RBAF team. The Runner-up was grabbed by RBLF team / Training Institute RBAF team. Third place went to RBAirF team.
In the Team category, RBLF team emerged champion after defeating Training Institute RBAF by 2-1 in the final match followed by the RBAirF team in third place.
Meanwhile, RBN took the champion’s title of the Special category after defeating Training Institute RBAF 2-0 in the final match. While RBLF team came in third place.
The Tournament ended with the prize presentation by the Guest of Honour, Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Dato Pekerma Jaya Mejar Jeneral Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah.
Among the objectives of the tournament apart from to foster the spirit of sportsmanship and strengthen friendship among takraw players, were to select highly potential players within RBAF to represent the RBAF Sports Council and Ministry of Defence in the National Sepak Takraw Championship and the upcoming Brunei Darussalam National Games.
