ISTANA NURUL IMAN, Monday 22 October 2015 – Brunei Darussalam’s new Cabinet was sworn-in today to carry out its national duties and responsibilities for a period of five years.

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam consented to preside over the swearing-in ceremony for new Cabinet Ministers and Deputy Ministers.


The swearing-in ceremony was held at Istana Nurul Iman. The letters of appointment were read by Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Penggawa Laila Bentara Istiadat Diraja Dalam Istana Pengiran Haji Alauddin bin Pengiran Paduka Tuan Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar, the Grand Chamberlain.


First to be sworn-in was His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince, Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office.


Followed by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Home Affairs.


Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman, Minister of Education.


Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Ibrahim, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister of Finance at the Prime Minister’s Office.


Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Dewa Dato Seri Setia Lim Jock Seng, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade.


Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Singamanteri Retired Colonel Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohammad Yasmin bin Haji Umar, Minister of Energy and Industry at the Prime Minister’s Office.


Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs.


Yang Berhormat Dato Paduka Awang Haji Bahrin bin Abdullah, Minister of Development.


Yang Berhormat Dato Paduka Awang Haji Ali bin Haji Apong, Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism.


Yang Berhormat Dato Paduka Awang Haji Mustappa bin Haji Sirat, Minister of Communications.


Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja (Rtd) Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports.


Yang Berhormat Dato Paduka Dr Awang Haji Zulkarnain bin Haji Hanafi, Minister of Health.


Also sworn-in ceremony were nine newly-appointed Deputy Ministers, beginning with Dato Paduka Awang Haji Hamdan bin Haji Abu Bakar, Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office.


Dato Paduka Awang Haji Mohd Roselan bin Haji Mohd Daud, Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office.


First Admiral Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohd Tamit, Deputy Minister of Defence.


Dato Paduka Awang Haji Hisham bin Haji Mohd Hanifah, Deputy Minister of Finance.


Dato Paduka Dr. Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Deputy Minister of Finance.


Dato Paduka Awang Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Perkerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Also present at the swearing-in ceremony was Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna, Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Also attending the ceremony were Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz, the State Mufti, and Yang Berhormat Datin Paduka Hajah Hayati binti Pehin Orang Kaya Shahbandar Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohd Salleh, the Attorney General.


The appointments take effect from the 22nd of October 2015 for a period of five years.
