SUNGAI AKAR, Thursday, 22 October 2015 – His Royal Highness Prince General Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince, Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and General of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) attended a momentous occasion for 27 Officer Cadets of Intake 13 Officer Cadet School (OCS) Defence Academy RBAF, who have successfully undergone the intensive 52-week Officer Cadet Training.
The Sovereign’s Parade Ceremony took place at the Officer Cadet School Parade Square in Sungai Akar Camp.
His Royal Highness was greeted upon arrival by the Deputy Minister of Defence, Dato Paduka Haji Mustappa bin Haji Sirat and the Commander of RBAF, Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah.
After receiving the Royal Salute from the Static Guard of Honour mounted by personnel of the Royal Brunei Land Force, His Royal Highness proceeded to receive the Royal Salute at the Royal Dais.
His Royal Highness then consented to inspect the parade which comprised of 27 Officer Cadets of Intake 13 and supported by 33 Officer Cadets of Intake 14. The parade was led by Lt Rosfadhly bin Haji Rosli, RBN. Out of the 27 Officer Cadets, 13 have been assigned to the Royal Brunei Land Force, 7 to the Royal Brunei Navy and another 7 to the Royal Brunei Air Force.
His Royal Highness then consented to present awards to four Officer Cadets who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in different aspects of the training. The ‘Sword of Honour’ was presented to 21750 Officer Cadet Auni ‘Afifah @ Yumni binti Haji Ali Hassan, who is also a Supreme Commander scholar. She holds a Master of Syariah (Syariah and Law) from University of Malaya, Malaysia. The sword is presented to the Officer Cadet who has achieved overall excellence in training.
The Best Academic Award was presented to 21751 Midshipman Qurratu’aini Qayyimah binti Al Zelzy who holds a Master of Research in Criminology and Socio-Legal Studies from University of Manchester, United Kingdom. She has demonstrated high intellectual and critical thinking as well as excelled in academic studies.
The recipient of the Best Military Skills Award is 50996 Officer Cadet Muhammad Fairuz bin Rosli, a graduate from University Brunei Darussalam with a Bachelor Degree of Arts in Malay Literature, for his excellent achievement in all military skill subjects.
Finally, the Best Physical Fitness Award was presented to 21749 Midshipman Najihah binti Haji Abdul Hisab, who holds a Master of Arts in Comparative Literature from School of Oriental and African Studies, United Kingdom. She has performed consistently and progressively in Physical Fitness throughout the training period.
Doa Selamat was read by the Assistant Head of RBAF Religious Department, Captain Ariffin bin Amit.
OCS has successfully completed the first 52-week Commissioning Course with the addition of a significant Range Management Qualification Course, that has trained the Officer Cadets to run shooting ranges upon arrival at their units.
During the year, OCS completed the first Joint Exercise, named ‘Eksesais Kepimpinan’ that involved personnel from the Royal Brunei Land Force, Royal Brunei Navy and Royal Brunei Air Force. The focus was a Bilateral Exercise between OCS Defence Academy RBAF and OCS New Zealand in Kampong Mariam jungle training area. In future, OCS will continue to pursue Joint International Exercises for the benefit of Brunei Darussalam.
Following the parade, His Royal Highness proceeded to the Officers’ Mess and consented to receive a Pesambah entitled ‘Wihdatul Alwanul Syuja’ah’. The Officer Cadets also presented their ‘Buku Perjalanan’, a book written by the graduating Officer Cadets, which documented their training in OCS to His Royal Highness.
His Royal Highness also consented to receive greetings from the Officer Cadets and their families before a parchment to commemorate his visit.
Prior to leaving the ceremony, His Royal Highness consented to receive greeting from the officers and instructors of OCS as well as international course participants of the Junior Staff Course. The ceremony ended with a group photograph session.
