Deputy Minister of Defence received a courtesy call from The Right Honourable Michael Fallon MP, Secretary of State for Defence, United Kingdom this afternoon.
During the call, both sides discussed the longstanding close defence relations between the two defence establishments, and reaffirmed their desires to further enhance the existing cooperation by increasing professional interactions and interoperability between the Royal Brunei Armed Forces and British Forces Brunei (BFB). Brunei Darussalam and United Kingdom also exchanged views on regional and international matters of mutual interest.
The Right Honourable Michael Fallon is on a one-day visit to Brunei Darussalam, which includes a visit to the Brunei Garrison, Seria, where he officiated the completion of an Estate Development Plan project for 32 units of accommodation for the Brunei Garrison, and had an opportunity to interact with the First Battalion Royal Gurkha Regiment (1RGR) and their families.
Brunei Darussalam and United Kingdom signed the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation in 1979, which paved the way for the continuance of relations between both countries in mutual areas of interests. Both countries have also signed a number of Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) on defence and military cooperation.
