PENANJONG GARRISON, Friday 15 May 2015 – The Royal Brunei Land Forces (RBLF) emerged as the winner of the 21km team event for the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Half Marathon Championship 2014/2015 this year. Second place went to the Ministry Of Defence and the third place went to the Royal Brunei Navy.
The RBAF Half Marathon and 10km Run Competition 2014/2015 is RBAF’s annual sport event aims to promote running competition within RBAF units as well as to scout for new talents and choose the best runners to represent RBAF to compete in the ministerial and national level.
Furthermore promotes a running culture and a healthy lifestyle inculcated within RBAF personnel and this year been organized by the Training Institute Royal Brunei Armed Forces.
For the half marathon 21km began this morning which started from Kuala Tutong in the Tutong District and ended at the Mini Stadium, Penanjong Garrison.
While for the 10km started from the football field in Tutong Garrison and ended at the Mini Stadium, Penanjong Garrison as well. Present at the starting line to officiate the event was the Commander Royal Brunei Navy, Colonel (L) Pg Norazmi bin Pg Haji Muhammad for the 21km whilst the Deputy Commandant Training Institute RBAF, Lieutenant Colonel Tarip bin Haji Karia who was present at the 10km starting line.
The event saw the categories divided into two – the 21km and 10km. Under the 10km category, there are the Male Officer Open Category for 40 years and above (Veteran), Male Officer Open Category for 39 years and below, Male Other Ranks Open Category for 40 years and above (Veteran), Male Other Ranks Open Category 39 and below. For the 21km Half Marathon categories were Male Officer Open Category, Male Other Ranks Open Category and the Top 20 overall runners. There is also the Overall Team category for First, Second and Third Place in the event.
The Guest of Honour for this event was the Commander RBAF, Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah who also presented the medals, prizes and trophy to the winners for all the categories to conclude the event.
