MAINMUARA NAVAL BASE, Wednesday 13 May 2015 – KDB DARUTTAQWA set sail, this morning, to participate in the Western Pacific Naval Symposium Multilateral Sea Exercise (WMSX) in conjunction with the 10th series of the International Maritime Defense Exhibition Asia (IMDEX ASIA 2015) that will be held in the Republic of Singapore from 19-21 May 2015.

The deployment is led by Lieutenant Colonel (L) Khairil Haji bin Abdul Rahman, Commanding Officer of KDB DARUTTAQWA, with a total complement of 64 personnel. KDB DARUTTAQWA will be involved in WMSX along with 20 warships and submarine from 13 foreign navies.

Some of the evolution of exercises includes exercise planning and discussion, shore boarding, and maritime interdiction operation Vessel Board, Search and Seizure while underway.

Attending as the Guest of Honor during the farewell event was Lieutenant Colonel (L) Haji Othman bin Haji Suhaili, the Deputy Commander of Royal Brunei Navy and Colonel Lee Yong Heng, Republic of Singapore Defense Adviser to Negara Brunei Darussalam.

Also presents were senior officers, officers and RBN personnel, as well as families of the participating personnel.

To bless the ceremony, a Doa Selamat was recited by Corporal Mohd Harun Al-Rashid bin Haji Mohd Hussin from RBAF Religious Department (JA’MAAT). Additionally, RBN’s participation in WMSX exercise focuses on enhancing maritime professionalism and to strengthen ties, as well as to boost the maritime relations.

The biennial IMDEX ASIA 2015 event marks another milestone for the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) in fostering defense ties and security. IMDEX ASIA is Asia Pacific’s premier international maritime defense show, which is recognized as the platform of choice for high-level government and navy delegations to networking, building partnerships and also updated on the latest naval technologies and innovations. The exhibition will take place at Changi Exhibition Centre, Republic of Singapore.
