BOLKIAH GARRISON, Monday 20 April 2015 – The Deputy Minister of Defence, Dato Paduka Haji Mustappa bin Haji Sirat received a visit from the Head of nineteen delegation of the National Security and War Course (NSWC) National Defence University, Islamabad, Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Commodore Hamid Hussain, Directing Staff of NDU at the Ministry of Defence in Bolkiah Garrison today.
During the courtesy call, both sides discussed about regional issues, current affairs and their commitment to strengthening the existing bilateral defence relation through exchange of visits, training and courses.
Also present during the call were the Deputy Permanent Secretary (Defence Policy and Development), Abu Sufian bin Hali Ali; High Commissioner of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Brunei Darussalam, His Excellency Brigadier (B) Muhammad Zareef Malik; and Commandant of Defence Academy Royal Brunei Armed Forces (DA RBAF), Colonel Haji Abd Hadi bin Haji Saim.
The National Security and War Course (NSWC) National Defence University Islamic Republic of Pakistan is in the Sultanate for a 5-day educational visit. Such educational visit has been organised by the DA RBAF aims not only to expose the students to international arena but also to further strengthen the defence cooperation between Brunei and Pakistan. Consecutively this visit also helps to benefit the delegation with an in-depth knowledge of general aspects and affairs of Brunei Darussalam including its history, culture and traditions.
Brunei Darussalam and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan signed a “Memorandum of Understanding on Defence Cooperation” on 19 May 2004. The MOU serves as a framework for fostering closer defence relation and cooperation between the two countries, which includes training and exercises; technology transfer; cooperation in the procurement and defence equipment and material; intellectual property; and exchange, release and protection of information. Both countries also continue to enjoy strong bilateral defence relationships which include the Joint Defence Working Committee platform; study visits; as well as attendance in conferences and defence exhibitions held by respective countries.
