SG AKAR CAMP, Tuesday 3 February 2015 – Religious events are core to the personal development of Officer Cadets in order to instill the core value of Takwa into them. Today, the Officer Cadets of Intake 12 held their tenth and final Khatam Al-Quran for their upcoming Sovereign’s Parade at the Surau, Officer Cadet School Sungai Akar Camp. The Chairperson for the event was 50843 OCdt (L) Haji Mohd Syahmi Fakhurullah bin Haji Mohd Is’srah.
The Guest of Honour, Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah, Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces as well as senior officers from the RBAF. Also attending were officers, staff and instructors from Defence Academy, RBAF and Officer Cadet School.
As preparation for the event, the Officer Cadets had to memorise several Surah from the Quran which helps them to become more proficient in the reading of the Quran. The event consists of the graduating intake and the junior intake who played the supporting role during the event. This has helped improve teamwork and coordination amongst both intakes.
The event started with a recital of Surah Al-Fatihah by the Guest of Honour, followed by recital of several Surah from the Quran by the Officer Cadets. The event ended with refreshments and gifts to the invited guests from the graduating intake.
Their experience organising events such as the Khatam Al-Quran will prove to be useful in their future undertakings as junior RBAF officers. With that, the Officer Cadet School has delivered on the objectives of the RBAF as a whole in terms of upholding the Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB) philosophy.
