BOLKIAH GARRISON, Wednesday, 26 November 2014 – The Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council or MS ABDB will be taking part in this year’s Brunei Darussalam National Games. A presentation ceremony of the MS ABDB flag for their participation took place this afternoon in the Bolkiah Garrison gymnasium.
The flag was handed over by the guest of honor, Brigadier General (U) Dato Seri Pahlawan Wardi bin Abd Latip, Commander of the Royal Brunei Air Force to the Head Contingent of MS ABDB, Lt Col Hasmee bin Haji Abdul Wahab.
Brunei Darussalam National Games is organized by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports in cooperation with sports associations once every two years.
In 2012, the MS ABDB managed to occupy at the fourth place overall. This year, MS ABDB enlisted a total of 422 athletes consisting of military and civilian personnel whom will partake in 20 different sport events out of 23 events to be contested.
Brigadier General (U) Dato Seri Pahlawan Wardi urged all athletes to maintain a high standard of discipline and sportsmanship in any sporting events.
Brigadier General (U) Dato Seri Pahlawan Wardi empahsized, “It is the intent of all contingent to win the gold medal in the sport events to be contested, however, all athletes must always demonstrate a high standard of sportsmanship and to avoid any form of illegal drugs or ‘steroids’ which may affect the integrity of the team.”
The guest of honour also said that the MS ABDB has athletes who are recognized as “High -performance athletes” where they have represented the country in regional tournaments like the Asian Games, SEA Games, Arafura Games, Beach Games, and some international tournaments such as martial arts, karatedo, sepak takraw and fencing.
He hopes for the young athletes to be able to take on this success as an inspiration for them to strive further, to make MS ABDB proud and for Brunei Darussalam to arise in the regional and international arena.
