MUARA, Monday 24 November 2014 – The French Marine Nationale held a reception aboard the French frigate Vendémiaire (F734) at the Muara Commercial Port as part of a four-day courtesy visit to the Sultanate.

Present were the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Commander, Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah, Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) Deputy Commander Colonel (L) Pg Norazmi bin Pg Haji Muhammad, as well as other RBN officers and Ambassadors-at-Large to Brunei Darussalam.

The French Maritime Nationale will also be undergoing an exercise with the RBN this coming Thursday, as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral military relations between the two countries. This was highlighted by the Commanding Officer of Vendémiaire, Hervé Siret, in his welcoming remarks.

Being the only European nation with permanent deployments in the Pacific, the French will be cooperating with the RBN over the next few days for maritime surveillance “to exchange our best practices” and to assess economic zones of the seas to further enhance the roles of the navy.
